Engineering Department: The Engineering department drives the technological innovation and development that powers our SaaS solutions. The team collaborates closely with product managers and designers to build, maintain, and scale high-performance software applications. A major focus for the Engineering team is ensuring robust, scalable, and efficient systems to deliver exceptional user experiences.The Career Opportunity:The Director of DevOps at PracticeTek will lead and oversee the DevOps Engineering Team, ensuring the reliability, security, and efficiency of all customer-facing services and other production systems. This role demands a blend of strategic leadership and technical expertise, focusing on continuous improvement, operational excellence, and adherence to compliance frameworks.Areas of Accountability:The Director, DevOps Engineering has responsibility for the following outcomes:Lead, mentor, and develop the DevOps team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and career growth.Oversee the management of application deployments using Helm charts and the Kubernetes ecosystem, optimizing for reliability and scalability.Architect and optimize infrastructure on Azure and AWS utilizing Terraform, Ansible, and other relevant tools.Implement and manage FinOps strategies to ensure cost-efficient cloud operations.Ensure adherence to HIPAA, PCI, and other compliance frameworks, embedding security best practices across all operations.Track the health, performance, and availability of infrastructure using advanced observability and monitoring tools like Datadog.Utilize DX to monitor and report on DORA/SPACE metrics, providing insights into the performance and efficiency of the DevOps practices.Troubleshoot, evaluate, and resolve operational challenges, ensuring defined service level objectives are met.Develop and maintain supporting infrastructure and tooling to meet the needs of PracticeTek development teams.Lead the on-call rotation, ensuring the team is equipped to handle operational incidents effectively.Partner with the CTO and Engineering Directors on strategic direction and implementation of new technologies and processes.Manage complex projects, ensuring timely delivery and alignment with business goals.Collaborate with Engineering, Product, and Compliance/Security teams to feed operational insights back into the product development lifecycle.Competencies for Success: 10+ years of experience, including 5+ years of managing teams of 4 or more DevOps Engineers.Bachelor’s degree in computer science, or equivalent practical experience.Proven experience as a DevOps Engineer or Site Reliability Engineer, with a progression into leadership roles.Expertise in both Azure and AWS cloud platforms, with a strong background in Infrastructure as Code technologies, such as Terraform and Ansible.Demonstrated experience with FinOps strategies and cloud cost management.In-depth knowledge of HIPAA, PCI, and other relevant compliance frameworks and security best practices.Strong understanding of database systems including MySQL, PostgreSQL, and Microsoft SQL Server.Proficiency in scripting languages and understanding of basic concepts in either Shell or Python.Excellent leadership and team management skills, with a focus on mentoring and career development.Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both written and verbal, with internal and external stakeholders.Proven skills in complex project management, ensuring timely delivery and alignment with business goals.A strategic thinker with a drive to learn and continuously improve processes and systems based on feedback and emerging technologies.At PracticeTek we carefully consider a wide range of compensation factors to determine our offers of employment. This includes internal and external market factors as well as your individual experience and skills.
