Re-1 Valley School District is seeking a caring, dependable, and student-focused individual to serve as a Teacher Assistant in our Kindergarten through 2nd grade classrooms. This position supports early learners during one of the most critical stages of their academic and social development.
REPORTS TO: Building Principal and Classroom Teachers
SALARY RANGE & CATEGORY: $16.79/hour (depending on experience) on Classified Hourly Salary Schedule
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt
WORK CALENDAR: 165 days
FTE: 1.0
Full-time with benefits; 4-day school week (Tuesday - Friday)
POSITION SUMMARY: The K2 Teacher Assistant supports classroom instruction by working directly with students and assisting the classroom teacher in creating a safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate learning environment. This position plays a key role in supporting early literacy, numeracy, and social-emotional development.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Instructional Support
Assist the teacher in delivering daily lessons and instructional activities
Work with small groups and individual students in reading, writing, and math
Reinforce foundational literacy and numeracy skills
Support implementation of teacher-directed instructional strategies
Help prepare instructional materials and learning resources
Student Support
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe classroom environment
Assist with classroom routines and daily procedures
Prepare and organize materials, supplies, and bulletin boards
Supervise students during non-instructional times (recess, lunch, etc.)
Support smooth transitions between activities
Classroom Support
Assist with preparation of instructional materials and resources
Supervise students during instructional activities as directed by the teacher
Maintain a structured and supportive learning environment
Data Collection & Documentation
Assist in collecting student data as directed by the teacher
Support basic progress monitoring and record keeping
Maintain confidentiality of all student information
Help organize and track instructional materials and student work
Collaboration
Work closely with the classroom teacher and school staff
Communicate effectively regarding student progress and needs
Participate in team meetings or trainings as assigned
Support school-wide initiatives and positive culture
Qualifications and Education Requirements
Hold an Associates or higher degree
Demonstrated aptitude for the work to be performed.
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
Experience working with children or youth
Qualifications Preferred but not Required
Successfully pass the Work Keys test (through the Workforce Center) for Reading Information, Mathematics and Business Writing.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism
Experience working with students with disabilities
Knowledge of behavior support strategies
Experience in a school or classroom setting
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ability to work effectively with students with diverse learning needs
Basic understanding of instructional support strategies
Strong communication and collaboration skills
Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding student information
Ability to follow directions and work under teacher supervision
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
School classroom and resource room environments
Frequent interaction with students, teachers, and staff
Active supervision of students throughout the school day
Ability to move throughout school building and classroom
Ability to lift up to 30 pounds
May require assisting students with mobility or other support needs
