You will plan, organize and direct the operations of sports and fitness programs, activities and services. This involves working on publicity and finances for the programs, and managing coaches and other individuals involved in running the activities.Duties and ResponsibilitiesPlan ProgramsWe are looking for a creative, energetic Director to assess the recreation requirements of the community or organization, and plan new and existing activity program that meets those needs. You will communicate with community members, and research various sport and recreation programs. You will ensure that a variety of sport, recreation and cultural programs are planned and implemented, and over time evaluate the effectiveness of these programs and identify future needs.Implement ProgramsYou will implement recreation programs and ensure that they are being taken advantage of and are successful. Today, many of our programs have high enrollment, but a few programs have low interest. We would like someone to research these high and low performing programs and develop creative ways to continue reaching our community. You will also create and manage schedules for activities and facilities.Develop and Maintain BudgetYou will be responsible for managing a $1,000,000 annual budget with the initative to raise additional funds from the community. You will prepare a recreation program budget for the following year and ensure that is adhered to. You will also prepare financial and program reports concerning programs, costs, participant numbers and equipment and facility use to be reviewed by the county.Promote ActivitiesYou will also promote the programs under your department through an active community relations campaign. You arrange for advertising of programs, as needed, and maintain constant community engagement.Recreation Director SkillsA successful person in this role will be highly detail-oriented, a creative thinker, and resourceful. You must have a passion for serving and working with and leading all kinds of people.Core Skills5+ years of Parks and Recreation experience working in a Director-level role Demonstrated experience developing programs that meet community needs Experience managing an annual budget of $1,000,000 with additional skills in community fundraising Proficient with Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel & PublisherExcellent written and oral communication skillsExperience managing a team of 10+ coordinators and specialists Effective decision-making and negotiation skillsAdvanced SkillsKnowledge of emergency procedures, First Aid and CPRKnowledge of the management and operation of recreation facilities and equipmentUnderstanding of coaching theory and practiceApplication DeadlineThe anticipated application window is 30 days from the date job is posted, unless the number of applicants requires it to close sooner or later, or if the position is filled.Even though we’re an all-remote company, we still need to be thoughtful about where we have Zapiens working.
