Director of Development

Our client is a U.S.-based renewable energy investment firm focused on solar and storage. With a large-scale portfolio spanning operational and early-stage assets, they partner with developers to modernize infrastructure and accelerate the clean energy transition.Role Overview The Development Director will act as both a team leader and hands on contributor, managing development staff while advancing key solar and energy storage projects within our client’s portfolio. This individual will be expected to operate independently and drive complex initiatives with minimal oversight. The role requires prior experience in renewable energy project development, ideally across solar and/or storage. This position will collaborate closely with internal teams including acquisitions, investments, capital markets, business development, and asset management. The Director will play a key role in expanding the pipeline and supporting the delivery of new renewable energy capacity.Duties and ResponsibilitiesOversee end-to-end advancement of solar and energy storage assets, from early stage origination through notice to proceedSupervise and mentor development team members while ensuring projects stay on schedule and within financial targetsAct as the primary point of contact for partners, handling ongoing coordination and relationship managementAlign and direct both internal teams and external stakeholders involved in project executionLead early stage evaluations of new opportunities across functions such as legal, grid connection, finance, engineering, environmental, permitting, commercial, policy, and revenue strategyPartner cross-functionally to refine development workflows, optimize execution, and strengthen external partnershipsTrack and control project timelines and costs to support efficient delivery of solar and storage assetsRole includes periodic travel, approximately ten percent of the timeQualificationsBachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, or a related discipline; advanced degrees or certifications such as an MBA or PMP are advantageousExtensive background – over ten years years – in renewable energy project development, with demonstrated success advancing projects from early-stage control through notice to proceedHands on experience with solar, energy storage, and similar clean energy technologies; utility‑scale storage exposure is beneficialStrong leadership capabilities with experience overseeing teams and driving project executionProficiency with core business software including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint; financial modeling expertise is a plusHighly developed critical thinking, planning, and problem‑resolution abilitiesSelf‑starter mentality with the ability to independently drive initiatives from initial concept through completionSolid understanding of renewable energy development workflows and commercial structuresClear and effective communicator across all levels, including executives, colleagues, partners, and external stakeholdersStrong relationship management skills with the ability to balance competing priorities in a dynamic, fast‑moving environmentLegally authorized to work in the U.S. without employer sponsorshipAbility to work two days in the office in New York City on a hybrid work schedule#J-18808-Ljbffr
