Brief DescriptionJob SummaryInstalls custom unitized curtainwall units on commercial building fronts, interior glass walls, metal panels, soffits, etc.Duties & ResponsibilitiesReads and interprets blueprints and specifications to determine size, shape, color, type, and thickness of glass, location of framing, installation procedures, and staging and scaffolding materials required.Determines plumb of walls or ceilings, using plumb-lines and levels.Fabricates and installs metal sashes and moldings for glass installation, using aluminum or steel framing.Measures mirrors and dimensions of areas to be covered in order to determine work procedures.Fastens glass panes into wood sashes or frames with clips, points, or moldings, adding weather seals or putty around pane edges to seal joints.Secures mirrors in position, using mastic cement, putty, bolts, or screws.Cuts, fits, installs, repairs, and replaces glass and glass substitutes, such as plastic and aluminum, in building interiors or exteriors and in furniture or other products.Cuts and removes broken glass prior to installing replacement glass.Operates manipulators or hoists with suction cups to lift large, heavy pieces of glass.Sets glass doors into frames, and bolts metal hinges, handles, locks, and other hardware to attach doors to frames and walls.Cuts, assembles, fits, and attaches metal-framed glass enclosures on skylights and other structures.Installs pre-assembled metal or wood frameworks for windows or doors to be fitted with glass panels, using hand tools.Cuts and attaches mounting strips, metal or wood moldings, rubber gaskets, or metal clips to surfaces in preparation for mirror installation.Assembles, erects, and dismantles scaffolds, rigging, and hoisting equipment.Measures and marks outlines or patterns on glass to indicate cutting lines.Grinds and polishes glass, and smooths edges when necessary.Moves furniture to clear work sites, and covers floors and furnishings with drop cloths.Caulks spaces between moldings and glass with silicone compounds, and trims excess material with glazing knives.General clean up and sweepingCaulk perimeter framingBoots top of units with silicone bootProvides safety and welding spottersInstalls small pieces of trim around windowsShakes out aluminum anchors per elevationInventories and organizes materials to be installed after window erectionPhysical RequirementsAbility to stand and /or walk for the duration of the scheduled shift (at least 10 hours).Ability to periodically work overtime to support the cyclical nature of the business (may entail a shift longer than 10 hours).Ability to squat, stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, twist, reach, lift. Must be able to push and pull up to 100 lbs. on an occasional basis.Must be able to lift and carry objects up to 30 lbs. frequently, up to 50 lbs. occasionally and over 50 lbs. with a two-person lift.Exposure to noise and moderate but varying temperatures, humidity and other elements in warehouse environments.
