Personal Assistant

Overview Full time special needs caregiver position for a family in SW Portland with a 12 year old boy and 9 year old girl. The caregiver schedule is a bit flexible but will ideally be Monday through Friday, a split schedule, from 7am to 11 am and 2pm to 6pm. The caregiver will be responsible for getting the kids ready and off to school in the mornings as well as assisting with light housekeeping and tasks as assigned through the morning. In the afternoons the caregiver will get the kids from school and to activities and therapies. The boy has special needs and uses a walker; he is independent with the use of a fully accessible home and some robotics. The caregiver will assist with transports and helping him with his homework and other tasks after school. The caregiver will also establish relationships with his teachers, aids, and therapists. Mom and dad are physical therapists who own their practice. They rely on a carrgiver who is proactive, communicative, an independent thinker and someone who is fully invested in their kids. Their son is loved by his providers, is funny and kind, and is an easy kid to be around. His sister is a mature 9 yr old and is a huge help and very independent. The family has had fantastic former assistants and has remained friends with each of them! We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Personal Assistant to provide support to a child with disabilities and other care needs. This role is essential in enhancing the child’s quality of life by assisting him with daily activities, promoting independence, and ensuring safety and well-being. The ideal candidate will have experience in caregiving, particularly to children, and possess a strong understanding of the unique challenges faced by individuals with disabilities. Responsibilities Assist with daily living activities, including personal hygiene, meal preparation. Support the educational needs; Provide companionship to enhance the client's quality of life. Implement care and educational plans tailored to the individual client. Maintain a clean and safe environment for clients, ensuring all areas are organized and free from hazards. Support client in social activities and community engagement to promote inclusion and independence. Document care provided and any changes in the client's condition or behavior as required. Provide transportation in family’s car to school and therapies. Collaborate with healthcare professionals, teachers, family members, and other caregivers to ensure comprehensive care delivery. Skills Experience working with individuals with disabilities is highly desirable. Certification in CPR is preferred to ensure client safety during emergencies. Culinary skills are beneficial for preparing nutritious meals tailored to client dietary needs. Previous experience in caregiving or direct support roles with children is desired Strong interpersonal skills to build trusting relationships with clients and their families. Ability to remain patient, empathetic, and adaptable in various situations while providing high-quality support.
