Position: Lead Mainframe COBOL Developer (Z Series)Location: Dallas, TX OnsiteType: FulltimeWho are we looking for:We are seeking an experienced (12+ years) Senior COBOL Developer with expertise in AS400 systems to join our dedicated team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in COBOL programming on IBM AS400 (iSeries) platforms, coupled with a passion for modernization and innovation.Responsibilities:Technical Skills – Must haveCOBOL Programming: Proficiency in COBOL programming language with extensive hands-on experience in developing and maintaining mainframe applications.IBM Z Series Expertise: In-depth knowledge of IBM Z Series mainframe systems, including architecture, operating systems (z/OS), and utilities (TSO/ISPF, JCL, VSAM).Mainframe Development Tools: Experience using mainframe development tools and utilities for code editing, compilation, and debugging.Mainframe Modernization Techniques: Familiarity with mainframe modernization techniques such as rehosting, replatforming, or refactoring legacy applications.Unit Testing and Debugging: Ability to perform unit testing and debugging of COBOL programs to ensure accuracy, reliability, and compliance with functional requirements.Database Management Systems: Knowledge of mainframe database management systems (DB2, IMS) and experience in writing SQL queries.Must know use of any one of the ai coding agentsMust have very strong logical reasoning abilities.Must be flexible to work on alternative technologies as per project needs. (with training)Good to Have Skillsets:Middleware Technologies: Familiarity with middleware technologies commonly used in mainframe environments, such as CICS (Customer Information Control System) or MQ Series.Version Control Systems: Experience using version control systems (e.g., Git) for managing source code and tracking changes.Scripting Languages: Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., JCL, REXX) for automating mainframe processes and tasks.Web Services Integration: Understanding of integrating mainframe applications with modern web services and APIs.Experience with developer AI extensions tools like GitHub Copilot, AmazonQ, Gemini, or ChatGPTAbility to prompt GPT like assistant to perform specific tasks (like SQL queries generation, API validation)Ability to learn and experiment with new technologiesAbility to develop extensions for various Integrated Development Environnements (IDEs) like Eclipse, JetBrains etc.Proficiency in additional programming languages like Java and .NET (C#).Previous experience with publishing extensions on the VS Code marketplace.Educational Qualification:Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.Process Skills:General SDLC processesStrong planning and organization skills.Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.Ability to analyze complex problems, identify root causes, and propose effective solutions.Behavioral Skills: Work closely with Architect, Developers, and data scientists to deliver comprehensive solutions.Communicate effectively and share knowledge with the team.Be open to feedback and continuously learn and adapt to new technologies.Ability to work independently and as part of a team.Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines.Passionate about automation and continuous improvementGood Attitude and Quick learner.Certification (Good to have):IBM Certified Application Developer - COBOL or equivalent certification.IBM Z Series Mainframe Certifications (e.g., IBM Certified System Programmer).Skill DetailsMandatory Skill NameMin Years of experience required.Mainframe Cobol12+DB28CICS4
