From common eye problems to rare sight-threatening diseases, Wills Eye provides general eye care and comprehensive ophthalmic specialty services that attract patients throughout the Philadelphia metropolitan area, across the country and around the world.Today, we continue to shape the science and medicine of ophthalmology, thanks to our talented, skilled physicians and staff who are dedicated to improving and preserving sight.DescriptionPrimary Function:Under the supervision and direction of a Registered Nurse, the Nursing Assistant provides age appropriate patient care in accordance with hospital policies and best practices.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Assists with patient hygiene, mobility, physical comfort, eating and drinking, while observing patients for any changes.Records patient vital signs, routinely, or as directed.Performs 12 lead EKG.Maintains competency in routine blood draws and patient specimen process.Escorts or transfers patients in the hospital as needed.Assists with the discharge of patients and escorting them to their vehicles.Assists in the maintenance of unit cleanliness and equipment cleanliness.Assists with maintenance of stock levels.Assists with transfer of stretchers between work spaces.Distributes linen to appropriate areas.Removes linen and trash to appropriate areas.Adheres to strict Standard Precautions and Blood-Borne Pathogens protocol .Maintains BCLS certification every two years.Maintain ServSafe Food Handler Certificate every three years.Appropriately prepares/ handles/ delivers patient nutrition.Regularly attends staff meetings and in-services.Satisfactorily completes basic assignments within a given time frame.Complies with the hospital's incident reporting system.Interacts effectively with other health care team members to keep them informed of changes in the condition of the patient.Formulates and maintains effective working relationships with peers, managers and other members of the health care team.Avoids repeating rumors or soliciting unfounded statements, keeps personal biases to oneself, maintain positive image.Receives constructive feedback in a positive self-develop-mental manner.Functions as an effective team member.Demonstrate adaptability, flexibility, and accountability when changes are made in job description and responsibility, including performing all qualified duties throughout other areas of the hospital.Strives to maintain the confidentiality of all patients and their families/significant other(s).Position RequirementsEducational requirements:High School Diploma or Equivalent; Completion of a Medical Assistant Course or equivalent preferredLicensure/Certification(s):Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) requiredCMA or RMA requiredServSafe requiredExperience:Two (2) to three (3) years of clinical experience is preferredCategoryNursingFull-Time/Part-TimePer DiemPositionNursing AssistantNumber of Openings1Exempt/Non-ExemptNon-ExemptLocationWills Eye Hospital
