Product Engineer 3
SUMMARY
The Product Engineer 3 is responsible for using computer aided design tools to develop and prepare a variety of engineering models, drawings, layouts, and diagrams to support any/all product designs. Strategic development of corporate drawing/modeling standards is a primary responsibility of this position. The ability to create design documentation for product design, manufacturing and custom solutions is required.
The Product Engineer 3 will at times be responsible for making any necessary changes to Engineering documentation to accommodate a “special” or customization of standard product within the current ERP system. This includes making the necessary change to the Bill Of Materials (BOMs) and Routings in Nucraft’s ERP system.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Deliverables)
Develops efficient models using proper Top/down or Bottom/up methodologies.
Creates fully parametric relationships throughout part, subassembly and final assemblies.
Assists in the development and maintenance of Nucraft modeling and drawings standards
Uses and develops(preferred) workflows to support Vault-Pro PDM
Manages change control, revisioning and versioning to ensure designs are clearly controlled and communicated to downstream users.
Develops design automation (iLogic) to optimize model modifications for custom solutions, engineering changes and CAD/CAM integration.
Designs table driven parameters to control parts/assemblies to support iLogic
Develops and controls content libraries for the engineering department
Seeks technology advancement with AutoDesk Product Design and Manufacturing suite as well as other design platforms
Seeks continuous improvement opportunities for modeling and drawing methods
Creates parts, subassemblies, assemblies, manufacturing, application, installation, and layout drawings to support different needs and applications
Collaborates as needed with operations to understand process constraints.
Coordinates operational value-stream input into drawing and modeling specifications.
Optimizes CAD models and drawings to reflect change and customization of products
Develops engineered solutions in support of customers unique product needs
Interface with various functional areas, specifically sales, quoting, customer service, manufacturing, scheduling and purchasing as necessary to understand modeling/drawings specification needs.
Provide leadership and guidance to the engineering team regarding design automation strategies
Trains other engineering team members where applicable to advance modeling/drawing workflows and standard work
Change BOMs and Routings to reflect the customization of products
Consult with production personnel to determine best approach to manufacturing a product
Interface with various functional areas, specifically Sales, Quoting, Customer Service, Manufacturing, Scheduling and Purchasing
Work with New Product Development Engineering to optimize Engineering documentation between standard product and specials
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Mentors younger engineers, interns/coop’s
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
BS degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent Product Development Engineering Degree.
Minimum of 10 years of experience in a product development with complex assemblies (furniture preferred)
Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, Sharepoint, Teams).
Excellent time management skills and ability to work independently with little supervision as well as a team environment.
Knowledge of AutoDesk CAD products (Inventor, Fusion 360, AutoCad) or similar 3D CAD software (Pro/E, SolidWorks)
Knowledge of Wood CNC process and programming is preferred
Knowledge and experience in mix model lean manufacturing; familiarity with Toyota “Kata”
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Must be able to speak, read, and write English fluently.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Must be able to work in a team environment.
Effective communication skills and a positive attitude are expected.
Will be required to split time between the office sitting at a computer and the shop floor. Noise levels will fluctuate between the two work environments.
On-site support is required
Limited travel required, less than 15-20%

REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
Ability to prioritize projects, to organize and perform work accurately and efficiently under pressure, follow through to completion, demonstrate willingness to learn, be tactful and work well with a variety of people. Demonstrated ability to help other team members do the same.
Knowledge: understanding of wood furniture industry preferred, apply principles of engineering to projects from initial design to layout, and be familiar with lean methodologies.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear. The associate will be required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms. The associate must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
