This role involves skilled and semiskilled work in the operation and maintenance of utility wastewater pump stations and all related equipment.The Pump Station Technician Trainee position provides a possible career path for advancement to Pump Station Technician when certifications, license, experience, and performance requirements and expectations are met.Essential Job FunctionsJob assignments include, but may not be limited to the following: checks and maintains wastewater pump stations; assists Utilities Foreman, Senior Utilities Foreman; assists Pump Station Lead Mechanic/Mechanic I/Mechanic and Vactor Operator as applicable; performs potable water, wastewater, and reclaimed water installation, repair, maintenance, and inspection activities. Operates valve exercising, TCU battery checks and assist in operation of vactor and sludge trucks. Inspects mechanical equipment, troubleshoots, and corrects minor malfunctions. Ensures reliability of emergency power generation/pumping and transfer equipment tests. Maintains wastewater facilities, housekeeping, general mowing and grounds maintenance. Ability to lift up to 80 pounds. Performs other related duties as required.Knowledge, Skills And AbilitiesKnowledge of wastewater collection, pump station maintenance; irrigation, or plumbing system installation,repair, or maintenance methods, procedures, equipment, tools, materials, and supplies.Knowledge of supervisory techniques and practices.Knowledge of safe working procedures and practices.Skill in operating motor vehicles (150 truck) and equipment.Ability to operate a radio.Ability to plan, schedule, and supervise the work of others, including contractors.Ability to read and interpret plans, blueprints, and specifications.Ability to prepare accurate records and reports. To include computerized based work order system (CMMS).Ability to establish effective working relationships with employees, supervisor, and the public.Ability to read for comprehension.Must have a home telephone and be available for overtime work as well as mandatory on-call rotation.Performs and assists in confined space entries.Ability to recognize occupational hazards and implement appropriate safety precautions.Minimum RequirementsPHYSICAL SKILLS/WORKING CONDITIONS: Ability to lift up to 80 pounds. Ability to bend, climb, squat, stoop, and walk frequently. Ability to communicate effectively using verbal, written, and visual communication.EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma.LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS OR REGISTRATIONS: Must possess a valid Florida driver's license. Must obtain FEMA IS 100 and IS 700 within 90 days from date of hire.
