Aviation Crash Engineer

The Aviation Crash Engineer will oversee detailed inventories and conduct engineering condition assessments of crash-test documents and legacy media, including paper, film, photos, videos, and oscillographs. Other duties may be assigned.Lead item-level and batch-level inventories and engineering condition assessments of crash-test records and legacy media (paper, film, photos, video, oscillographs) and selected physical artifacts (biodynamics seats, helmets, related equipment).Apply engineering judgment and format-specific criteria to develop written disposition recommendations (retain, transfer, preserve, digitize-conceptual, or identify for excess/destruction subject to Government approval).Document chain of custody, handling controls, and interim safeguards for fragile media and artifacts during appraisal and transfer processes.Coordinate technical findings and resolve ambiguous or high-risk cases with the CAMI records custodian, FAA technical SMEs, and contract management.Maintain thorough documentation (condition reports, photographic records, metadata) to support disposition recommendations and future stewardship.Aid other members of the CAMI with this task upon request.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCEBachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or closely related field (degree must be from an accredited university) and a minimum of ten (10) years of research experience working with aircraft seat systems, occupant protection, crash test hardware, and test instrumentation standards beyond attainment of the degree.PHYSICAL DEMANDSThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
