It is a commitment to supporting the health, dignity, and daily well-being of our residents in a respectful and team-oriented environment.Position OverviewThe Sous Chef is responsible for supporting all daily kitchen operations and must be able to perform any kitchen task as needed. This role works closely with the Chef and culinary team to prepare and serve high-quality meals while ensuring compliance with menus, policies, procedures, and food safety regulations.The Sous Chef often acts as a liaison between culinary staff and resident services staff and is expected to provide positive leadership during assigned shifts. This position is normally required to work evenings, weekends, and many holidays.Key ResponsibilitiesKitchen Operations and Meal ServiceServe as second-in-command in the kitchen and assume responsibility when the Chef is not presentPrepare all foods and beverages according to approved menus, policies, and proceduresEnsure meals are served on time and at proper temperaturesPrepare and offer substitute menu items when residents decline a selection, as directedComplete required food safety documentation, including temperature logsQuality and Resident SatisfactionEnsure food is served in an appetizing manner and at appropriate temperaturesMonitor returned plates and communicate concerns regarding resident food acceptanceSupport resident satisfaction by paying attention to preferences and dietary needsWork cooperatively with Resident Services to support resident nutritionStaff Supervision and LeadershipProvide leadership and direction to culinary staff on shiftAssist in supervising Utility Workers and Server/Prep AssistantsModel proper food handling, sanitation, and professional behaviorCompliance and SafetyMaintain a clean, safe, and organized kitchen environmentFollow ServSafe, IDDSI, and state food safety standardsProperly utilize food, supplies, and equipment to minimize waste or lossReport equipment or facility issues promptlyAdditional ResponsibilitiesSupport inventory monitoring and food supply orderingParticipate in training opportunitiesPerform other duties as assigned to meet community goalsQualificationsExperience and training in professional cooking; culinary certification preferredMust obtain and maintain Food Protection Manager Certification (ServSafe or equivalent) and HACCP certificationKnowledge of geriatric dietary needs preferredStrong time management, organizational, and leadership skillsMinimum age of 18 yearsAbility to pass state-mandated background screening and drug testingPhysical RequirementsAbility to lift up to 50 lbsAbility to stand, bend, walk, and perform repetitive tasks for extended periodsAbility to work in hot and cold kitchen environmentsAbility to communicate effectively with residents, coworkers, and supervisorsAbout Heritage Property ManagementBay Ridge Assisted Living is operated by Heritage Property Management, committed to quality care and a supportive workplace guided by our core values of Honesty, Quality, Respect, Teamwork, Potential, and Balance.Heritage Property Management is an equal opportunity employer and complies with all applicable federal, state, and local employment laws.
