ESL Program Coordinator
The Literacy Council of Frederick County seeks a mission-driven and experienced ESL Program Coordinator to support our robust ESL programming and data collection needs. This role is essential to advancing our mission of empowering adults through literacy by providing top-notch ESL offerings and timely, caring customer service to a large corps of volunteers and students. The ideal candidate is highly organized and fast-working, able to juggle multiple priorities and demands at once, with excellent communication and logistical skills and deep knowledge of ESL curriculum and databases.Role and ResponsibilitiesThe ESL Program Coordinator is responsible for coordinating all ESL community classes and curriculum, providing ESL tutoring program and Parent Literacy program support, ESL event support, and accurate, timely program data management. ESL Community Class and Curriculum CoordinationPlan, coordinate, and oversee all ESL community class sessionsWith the Volunteer Program Coordinator, recruit, confirm, onboard, and provide ongoing technical support to volunteer instructorsCoordinate class locations, formats, calendars, and materialsManage class registration cycles, student placement, class confirmations, rosters, session communications and post-class student surveysMonitor enrollment trends and proactively address class under-enrollment or over-capacitySupport instructors with curriculum ideas, resources, and instructional planningHelp align class content with learner levels, assessments, and program goalsCreate pre- and post-session tests and collaborate with instructors to align tests with student levels and class content Parent Literacy Program SupportRecruit and support Parent Literacy volunteer instructorsPartner with the Parent Literacy Program Coordinator on scheduling, communication, and site logisticsAssist with problem-solving related to classes, instructors, or students as needed ESL Tutoring Program SupportAttend bi-weekly meetings with tutoring program coordinators and provide support related to student placement and volunteer questionsWith the Volunteer Program Coordinator, provide resources, guidance, and technical support to tutoring volunteersReinforce procedures related to attendance, testing, and documentationWith the Volunteer Program Coordinator, support, coordinate, and participate in volunteer professional development sessions ESL Student AssessmentsProvide oversight to the ESL student assessment process, in partnership with the Volunteer Program CoordinatorAdminister assessments, as needed Data Management and ReportingMaintain accurate student, class, attendance, and assessment data in LACESPull, compile, and review ESL Program data for leadership, internal planning, and grant reportingCoordinate with Operations and the Volunteer Program Coordinator to support staff and volunteers with LACES access, data-entry questions, and reporting expectations ESL Event SupportContribute to planning and execution of annual ESL-related events, such as Celebration of Achievements and ReflectionsSupport event logistics, communications, and coordination before and during the events Qualifications and Education RequirementsBachelor’s degree required, in adult education or related field preferredExperience coordinating ESL programming preferredExperience working with nonprofit organizations preferredExperience working with volunteers preferredExperience working with program databases required, with LACES experience preferredFamiliarity with CASAS adult literacy assessments preferred, CASAS certification a plusFluency in another language a plusProficiency with Microsoft Office applicationsMust have own transportation and a valid driver’s license with vehicle insurance meeting minimum state requirementsPreferred SkillsOutstanding communication skills, including oral and written English communication skillsAbility to work positively and effectively with students from diverse language, cultural, and educational backgroundsHigh energy, “can do” attitude, flexibility, and attention to detailStrong leadership, partnership-building, and collaborative skillsHourly Rate and Benefits: $24-$27/hour, Simple IRA with up to 3% match, free parkingJob Category, Schedule: Non-exempt, part-time up to 32 hours a week, occasional evening hours To apply, please email a resume and brief cover letter to staff@frederickliteracy.org by May 31, 2026.
