Manufacturing Administration - Packaging Engineer
Manages all aspects of Grote packaging requirements, which includes creating change orders for modifications to existing packaging designs, working with customers and vendors, assisting other branch plants to achieve global standardization, improving internal packaging, designing packaging for new products, and also identifying and implementing cost reduction opportunities.
Job Responsibilities:Essential & Secondary Functions:

Responsible to follow all safety procedures and practices.

Ensures and maintains the quality guidelines, procedures, and standards are consistently followed throughout the manufacturing operation.
Responsibility & Customer-Focused:
Creates Engineering Change Orders for changes to existing packaging designs.
Creates packaging designs for new product.
Develops new packaging drawings with Grote part numbers.
Submits and implements cost reductions on existing product.
Creates timelines for completion of new packaging designs.
Creates new designs to be tooled and manufactured.
Submits OEM packaging forms and obtains the necessary approvals.
Coordinates sampling and testing of new designs with purchasing and outside vendors.
Generates presentations on new packaging.
Periodically reviews packaging materials to consolidate where possible, remove obsolete materials, and prevent creating new designs when similar size materials exist.
Creates standard work for how to fold cartons, properly pack the product, and palletize the cartons. Utilizes the standard work to train operators as needed.
Maintains a packaging database (carton sizes, partition sizes and quantities, pad sizes, coating/non-coating)
Integrity:
Evaluates specifications required for package designs.
Evaluates customer packaging requirements, and works with the customer to calculate the correct quantity of returnable containers for the program.
Generates costs for new product packaging.
Respect & Family:
Trains maintenance personnel regarding functionality and preventative maintenance procedures for any packaging related equipment.
Supports factory personnel with packaging issues and new products.
Advises internal and external customers on proper packaging design.
Other Functions:
Updates external and internal personnel on project status.
Communicates with Sales & Marketing personnel via e-mail on project requirements.
Communicates with Purchasing, NPI Manufacturing Engineers, Industrial Engineers, and plant personnel on successful implementation of new packaging designs.
Discusses new designs with vendors and customers.
Uses AS400 to evaluate bills of materials, routing, etc.
Required to follow any other instructions and to perform any other duties as requested by supervisor.

Education, Experience, Training, Certifications and Licenses:Degree or equivalent experience:
BS or AS degree in Packaging or Packaging Technology preferred or 5+ years of demonstrated experience designing packaging.
