Director of Commercial Construction
The Director of Commercial Construction is responsible for the overall leadership, operational management, and financial performance of the Commercial Construction Division. This role oversees all commercial construction activities from proposals and preconstruction through project closeout and is responsible for strategic growth, operational execution, profitability, risk management, team development, and client satisfaction.The Director of Commercial Construction works closely with existing Atlantic Builders teams (e.g. purchasing, operations, accounting) to ensure projects are executed safely, efficiently, profitably, and in alignment with company standards and long-term business objectives.Division Leadership & Strategic GrowthLead and scale the Commercial Construction Division in alignment with company operational and strategic goals.Develop and execute annual business plans, revenue targets, staffing plans, and operational initiatives.Establish and maintain a professional commercial brand identity aligned with company values and strategic objectives.Provide leadership input related to constructability, project pursuit strategy, scheduling, staffing, and operational planning during preconstruction.Support division growth objectives targeting annual commercial revenue goals Establish and maintain organizational structures, workflows, and accountability standards necessary to support sustainable growth.Recruit, mentor, develop, and retain high-performing commercial construction personnel.Promote a culture of accountability, professionalism, teamwork, safety, and continuous improvement.Operations & Project OversightProvide executive oversight of commercial projects from proposals and preconstruction through project closeout.Direct and support Project Managers and Superintendents in achieving schedule, quality, safety, and financial objectives.Monitor project performance, staffing, production, and operational execution across all active projects.Ensure projects are completed in accordance with contract documents, company standards, and client expectations.Participate in project reviews, production meetings, scheduling reviews, and operational planning meetings.Assist in resolving project challenges, conflicts, and escalated field or client issues.Business Development & Client RelationsAssist in developing pursuit strategies, client presentations, proposal content, and relationship-building efforts to support sustainable commercial growth.Support business development efforts and strategic market positioning for the Commercial Construction Division.Develop and maintain relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors, municipalities, and community stakeholders.Participate in proposal reviews, contract negotiations, and pursuit strategy discussions.Support the successful execution of benchmark commercial projects to establish future growth opportunities.Represent the company in professional organizations, industry events, and community engagements as appropriate.Financial Management & ControlsOversee division budgets, forecasts, profitability, cash flow, and financial reporting.Review project budgets, cost forecasts, fee structures, contingency usage, and financial performance.Monitor project cost trends and proactively address operational or financial risks.Support revenue forecasting and long-range financial planning for the Commercial Construction Division.Ensure compliance with company financial policies, controls, and reporting requirements.In conjunction with the Senior Controller, develop and present rolling 12 to 24 month quarterly financial forecasts to ownershipSystems, Process & Technology LeadershipLead implementation and continuous improvement of commercial construction systems, software, and operational processes.Support integration of project management, accounting, estimating, scheduling, and procurement systems.Ensure operational procedures, quality standards, safety programs, and closeout processes are documented and standardized.Promote process improvement initiatives and operational efficiencies throughout the division.Compliance & Company StandardsEnsure all commercial operations comply with company policies, contract requirements, safety standards, and applicable laws.Support company initiatives, procedures, and continuous improvement efforts.Perform other duties as assigned.Support all Atlantic Builders Core ValuesDelighted CustomersPassionately Learn and GrowRespect All OpinionsAct with UrgencyGive BackHave Fun and CelebrateDo It Right the First TimeQualifications/RequirementsBachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or equivalent experience preferred.10+ years of progressive commercial construction leadership experience.Experience managing commercial operations, project teams, budgets, forecasting, and business growth initiatives.Strong understanding of commercial contracts, estimating, cost control, scheduling, and risk management.Experience leading teams and developing operational processes in a commercial construction environment.Must have a valid driver’s license.Salary Range: $140,000 -
