Cost of living runs well below California's coastal averages; housing is genuinely affordable for a physician household. Year-round sunshine, no traffic to speak of, and easy access to the Bay Area (90 minutes), Yosemite (90 minutes), the Pacific coast (2 hours), and Lake Tahoe (3.5 hours). The university brings an academic energy and cultural depth that sets Turlock apart from peer Central Valley cities.
