Oversees internal and external communications, brand identity, staff, and program budget.This role is critical in promoting transparency, public trust, and effective community engagement.SupervisionReceives: General supervision from the Police & Community Services DirectorExercises: Direct supervision over communications staff (e.g., Public Information Officer, Communications Specialists), as well as consultants, interns, and volunteersKey ResponsibilitiesLead and manage a Citywide communications and public information programDevelop and implement strategic communications plans, goals, and performance metricsServe as chief communications advisor to executive leadershipOversee media relations, branding, digital platforms, website, and social mediaDirect crisis and emergency communications; serve as PIO as neededSupervise, mentor, and evaluate communications staffManage consultants, contracts, and communications-related servicesPrepare and approve press releases, speeches, reports, and digital contentOversee website governance, content standards, and complianceCoordinate public engagement, outreach, and community feedback effortsEnsure compliance with applicable laws (e.g., Public Records Act, Brown Act)Develop and manage program budget and forecastsRepresent the City in meetings and public settingsAdditional DutiesAttend City Council meetings and community eventsProvide communications support during emergencies and after hours as neededPerform related duties as assignedKnowledge & SkillsKnowledge of:Public sector communications, media relations, and crisis communicationsApplicable laws (e.g., Brown Act, Public Records Act)Digital media, analytics, and content strategyPublic administration and community engagement practicesBudgeting, contracting, and program managementAbility ToProvide strategic communications counsel at the executive levelManage complex, high-profile, and sensitive issuesCommunicate effectively in writing and verbally across platformsBuild relationships with officials, staff, media, and the publicAnalyze data and develop actionable recommendationsLead teams and manage multiple priorities under pressureEducation & ExperienceEducation: Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, public administration, journalism, marketing, or a related field (Master’s preferred)ExperienceFive (5) years of progressively responsible communications/public affairs experienceThree (3) years of supervisory or management experienceLicense: Valid California driver’s license with acceptable driving recordTo view the official job bulletin and apply, visit the City’s website at www.santafesprings.govAttachmentsJob Bulletin.pdfHow To ApplyTo view the official job bulletin and apply, visit the City’s website at www.santafesprings.govShareShareShareShareemail Share
