Job Description
The Network Edge Engineer I designs and maintains Edge networking including distribution switching, PON, Wireless and ethernet transport services. Works with CORE group to ensure system stability and future product designs.Has an understanding of the basic voice network switches, routing and core network. Understands the transport path from voice core to customer edge CPE.
Duties and responsibilities
Install, provision, configure, upgrade edge network routers and switches
Design, plan and implement edge network logical and physical migrations
Troubleshoot and resolve edge network issues
Maintain complete and accurate documentation of specific project details
Provide mid-level and on-call support for escalated customer service issues up to and including service outages
Manage relationships with both internal and external stakeholders, facilitate resolution of any issues
Utilize monitoring tools to proactively identify potential issues and plan for future growth
Tier 2 NOC Support
Facilitate the procurement of equipment and materials specific to projects
Tasks and projects relevant to the position as needed
Requirements:
Knowledge and experience requirements
Strong working knowledge of project/program management, conducting end to end project management of network projects
High proficiency with layer-2 switching devices and protocols
Strong knowledge of OSI model
Some experience working with BGP, IS-IS, MPLS, OSPF, LDP protocols
Experience working with Juniper, Nokia and Cisco platforms
High proficiency working with Passive Optical Networks
Experience working with DC powered systems
Strong troubleshooting and multitasking abilities
Ability to work independently on projects
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Juniper JNCIA-Junos/JNCIS-SP, Comptia A+/Net+, Nokia NRS 1, Cisco CCNA, or similar certifications preferred
4 years of IT/Networking experience strongly preferred
