This position develops and maintains an updated cross reference system of courses from colleges, universities, and community colleges. The Evaluation Specialist processes information determining the exact status of transferred classes and provides accurate accounting of transferred classes to the college records system, academic departments and to the student applicants. This position reports directly to the Manager of Admissions and Enrollment, and is non-exempt.Duties/ResponsibilitiesEvaluate transcripts for new and returning transfer admissions applicantsRecognize academic, technical, and quarter hour course workDetermine, and categorize acceptable transfer hoursConsult with and advise students concerning transfer practices and policies.Assist academic departments and other stakeholders in the determination equivalent and non-equivalent course work.Assign credit based upon standardized transfer tests such as CLEP and Advanced Placement.Evaluate credit earned through military trainingTrain student workers and Admissions employees regarding the transfer processAssist entering students with the admission processAssist applicants in person, online and over the telephoneAnswer phone, retrieve and respond to messagesOther duties as assignedMinimum/Preferred QualificationsMinimum QualificationsAssociate degreeThorough understanding of college course organization and curriculum.Knowledge of interpretation and evaluation of university catalogs.Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, and students.Skill and accuracy in making mathematical computations.Familiarity with transfer software products, Banner preferred.Ability to effectively communicate, orally and in writing.Ability to work with a diverse student population.Preferred QualificationsMinimum of one-year experience in a college transfer and/or admission settingExperience in transcript evaluationExperience working in BannerSupplemental InformationPhysical RequirementsThis position requires the ability to: remain in a stationary position for most of the time; occasionally move about inside an office to access documents, office equipment, etc.; constantly operate a computer or other office equipment, such as a printer or copy machine.Lamar Institute of Technology is an E-Verify Employer.This position is security-sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code51.215, which authorizes the employer to obtain criminal history record information.
