This is a new position to TLC with a focus on implementing new technologies and process improvements. There is a short-term focus for this position on a new piece of automation equipment. Daily activities will center around the installation, training, programming, and operation of this new machine. This role will be the expert on all subjects related to this machine and may have to field calls from off shift employees to help troubleshoot issues. Once steady state operation is reached, this role will expand to encompass all areas of production as further defined by the job description. Job Purpose: This position is responsible for developing new automation programs, refining and improving existing manufacturing processes, approving process changes, and resolving any issues that may occur with the automated machines. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: This position is required to assure compliance of Company operations to all applicable laws, regulations and standards, good business practices and company documented procedures (including but not limited to Quality Systems Regulations, ISO 9001, ISO 13485, government occupational health and environmental regulations and statutes). Automation Programming Core Responsibility Create and edit programs for automated wire harness manufacturing equipment Support development of new fixturing for automated plugging applications Work with Engineering Department on First Articles and validation exercises Refine and optimize existing machine programs Troubleshoot and resolve issues with automated equipment Continual Improvement Core Responsibility Analyze and refine existing production processes (automated and manual) Design, build, or purchase necessary tools and fixtures to increase efficiency Research and propose new equipment purchases Oversee installation of new equipment Process Control Core Responsibility Review and approve controlled process changes (Change Orders). Develop controlled manufacturing processes. Validate metrics and standards for new manufacturing processes. Inter-Department Support Secondary Responsibility Support Engineering development team with new project quoting and start up. Support Quality with product defects, root cause analysis, and corrective actions. Support Supply Chain with material deviations and scrap issues. Support Sales and Customer Service with customer inquiries on production processes. Safety and Cleanliness Core Responsibility Adhere to all safety regulations Identify and report any safety concerns Maintain a clean work environment by cleaning workstation and plant areas as assigned Complete other tasks or duties as assigned. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Ability to program automated equipment. Ability to set-up and operate machines related to wire/cable processing. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. High mechanical aptitude. Math skills including the ability to solve fractions, addition, subtraction, division, and multiplication problems. Troubleshoot problems with the operation of automated machines. Working knowledge of wire harness, assembly processes and practices, tooling, and fixtures. High degree of manual dexterity. Ability to accurately read a ruler/tape measure. Ability to use a caliper/micrometer and microscope. Ability to read and understand standard operating procedures (SOPs), schematics, prints, and drawings. Ability to perform repetitive work. Ability to learn various operations and equipment within the production floor and perform proficiently. Skill to perform inspections. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions. Ability to work cooperatively with co-workers. Ability to adapt to changes in technology. Good verbal communications skills. Ability to use and understand computers and their software programs such as an ERP system. Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and kneel as job requires. Able to question or identify the need for additional / missing information such as dimensions or tolerances. Qualifications: Minimum Bachelor's degree in a related engineering field, or combination of education and equivalent successful experience in a similar role. 2 years' experience in automated systems, robotics programing, or similar field. Preferred: Experience with wire cutting and processing equipment. Two (2) or more years of experience in a related position or equivalent work experience with machine set-up and operation. Lean manufacturing and continual process improvement experience. Familiar with ISO 9001 or ISO 13485 quality standards Familiar with an ERP system.
