Development Engineer

Overview In this role you will design and optimize DER and microgrid systems, collaborating with business development, execution, and commercial teams to deliver technically sound, cost-effective solutions. You will work on interconnection processes, switchgear interfaces, and system controls to enhance reliability and sustainability for customer sites. The position combines hands-on engineering with cross-functional coordination in a fast-growing, PE-minded environment. You will contribute to scalable templates and processes to drive continuous improvement and customer value. Compensation / Benefitscompetitive compensation packagemedical benefitspaid vacation and holidays401K matching ResponsibilitiesCreate electrical and physical designs for microgrid and DER systems considering existing infrastructure, AHJ requirements, and site constraintsCommunicate technical constraints and opportunities to internal and customer stakeholdersCollaborate with BD teams to evaluate and develop technical solutionsCoordinate with BD, execution, and commercial teams to ensure technically sound, practical, and cost-effective microgrid integrationsDevelop and modify one-line drawings/interconnections to optimize functionality and interfaceInvestigate interconnection processes and submit interconnection applicationsCoordinate with switchgear manufacturers (e.g., Schneider Electric) to meet project requirements within constraintsProvide input to solar, battery, and generator designs to optimize performance, reliability, and sustainabilityCollaborate with the development engineering team and other stakeholders to improve templates and processes Key requirements2+ years of experience in design and construction of power/generation/renewable projectsThorough technical understanding of distributed energy technologies (solar, battery, and/or reciprocating engines/turbines)Understanding of onsite power generation and parallel operation with utility and other DERs (grid and island modes)Solid understanding of utility interconnectionKnowledge of DER power sources interfacing with utility to improve system efficiencyKnowledge of DER controls and how they achieve operating goals within a microgridStrong communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholdersBS in Electrical Engineering (power-focused preferred)PE in power or progress toward license preferredAdvanced power-related coursework or higher-degree preferredstrong communicationcross-functional collaborationproblem-solvingdistributed energy technology knowledgesolar, battery, and engine/turbine integrationinterconnection processes and utility coordination
