Position Summary: The Human Resources Assistant will support the hardboard and particleboard facilities by performing a variety of administrative and clerical tasks. This individual will work under the direction of the HR Manager and be assigned duties such as scheduling; entering and maintaining data; providing general support to visitors; taking meeting minutes; and processing payroll. Duties/Responsibilities: Comply with safety standards at all times and correct/report any observed safety hazards. Process union payroll. Answer phones and provide general support to employees needing HR services. Post open positions to the company website. Assist the corporate HR team with outreach and other diversity initiatives and track affirmative action activities. Assist and attend local job fairs. Enter new hire, employee change, and termination documents into UKG. Upload as needed. Schedule interviews with applicants and hiring managers. Enter applicant information into system to perform background checks as needed. Coordinate drug screens and spirometry appointments. Schedule union meetings as needed. Take minutes and document meetings. Send leave of absence requests to supervisors. Assist with onboarding as needed. Respond to employment department claims. Complete and respond to requests for Verification of Employment. Perform additional duties as required by supervisor. On-site attendance is essential to effectively perform the listed duties and responsibilities. Required Skills and Abilities: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Excellent analytical, reasoning, and problem-solving skills; ability to think creatively and find innovative solutions to complex problems. High level of personal integrity and ethical and professional standards. Excellent time-management and organizational skills. Education and Experience: Associate degree in human resources, business, or a similar field preferred. Equivalent experience accepted. Working knowledge of human resources including recruitment, diversity, performance management, and federal and state respective employment laws preferred. Prior experience processing payroll preferred. Prior experience with recruiting to include diversity outreach. Position Requirements: Must meet position requirements to be considered a candidate for this position. Must be eighteen (18) years of age or older. Ability to follow all company, state and federal safety rules when performing required job duties. Ability to pass a pre-employment criminal history check and a pre-employment drug screening. Environmental Conditions: May be exposed to dust, noise, trip hazards, and variable temperatures and weather conditions. Required Personal Protective Equipment: Individuals must be willing to wear the required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times. Positions may require additional PPE at specific times. Examples of PPE which may be required include high visibility garments, hand protection, eye protection, hearing protection, a hard hat, foot protection, and a face shield.
