Epic Client Systems Administrator, Senior The Senior Epic Client Systems Administrator will play a pivotal role in the Epic Client Systems team, leveraging their deep expertise to drive the strategic management and maintenance of the Epic electronic health record (EHR) system. This visionary facilitator will have a university-wide impact, ensuring the reliability, optimized performance, and security of the Epic infrastructure. They will oversee the installation, configuration, and maintenance of Epic client systems and related infrastructure, manage system updates and patches, continuously monitor system performance, and implement robust security protocols. Additionally, the Senior Administrator will provide advanced technical support and training to end-users, enhancing their ability to effectively utilize the Epic system. Serving as a technical expert, they will guide the Epic Client Systems Administrator team in the design, installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of the Epic infrastructure. By driving the adoption of innovative solutions and best practices, the Senior Epic Client Systems Administrator will be instrumental in advancing the University's technology landscape. The Senior Epic Client Systems Administrator will positively impact UCSF's operations and culture by ensuring UCSF's IT infrastructure is operable, secure, efficient, and effective in service of UCSF's academic mission. This team member will advance UCSF's mission by delivering exceptional information technology services comprehensively and consistently across faculty, staff, and students. This role will execute UCSF's vision while modeling UCSF's culture and values. The annual salary range for this position is $121,900-$277,100. The Platform Services team within Infrastructure Services is committed to empowering the academic, medical, and research mission of UCSF by ensuring that all customers have seamless, secure, and accessible technological support. The team oversees the management and maintenance of various technology platforms, including systems, databases, and cloud services, to guarantee they are secure, readily available, and performing optimally. Platform Services handles the management of critical software, such as Epic, ensuring it supports the highest level of medical service delivery by operating at peak performance. The team also oversees data center operations, including server management, storage, and networking equipment, to ensure the reliable delivery of health services. Additionally, it manages enterprise databases, Oracle, SQL, and other defined databases with a focus on data security, availability, and top-tier performance. All these tasks are critical not just for the smooth operation of the University's technological infrastructure, but also for enhancing productivity, enabling the provision of high-quality health services and learning, and ultimately, improving patient and student outcomes. Required Qualifications Five or more years of experience in one or more of the following fields: Epic systems administration, server administration or information systems. Bachelor's degree, or four years of experience/training, in one or more of the following fields: computer engineering, information systems or computer science. Demonstrated successful experience in information technology, platform services, or Epic client systems. Advanced understanding of Epic EHR systems, including installation, configuration, and maintenance. Familiarity with Epic modules and their integration within the healthcare environment. Proficient in troubleshooting and resolving technical issues related to Epic systems and associated hardware. Highly skilled in performing system updates, patches, and upgrades. Proficient in Windows and Linux operating systems, including command-line interfaces and system administration tasks. Advanced knowledge of networking principles, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and VPN. Understanding of network security practices and protocols. Extensive understanding with virtualization technologies such as VMware, Hyper-V, or similar platforms Knowledge of database management systems (DBMS) and SQL. Understanding of how databases interact with Epic systems. Demonstrated knowledge of healthcare regulations (e.g., HIPAA) and best practices for data security and privacy. Understanding of security protocols and tools used to protect sensitive information. Demonstrated ability to analyze system performance metrics and identify trends or potential issues. Advanced written and verbal communication skills and is able to communicate technical information and ideas to a diverse community of colleagues and stakeholders. Demonstrated ability to establish and advance positive working relationships and a strong rapport with team members, stakeholders, and customers. Strong organizational skills and is able to balance competing priorities and support concurrent projects. Experience working in a project-based environment using leading project management practices including schedule management, status reporting, and communication of project risks and issues. Demonstrated problem-solving skills; scopes solutions based on knowledge of available resources and timelines. Able to ask questions, gather information, evaluate options, and make decisions with integrity. Extensive experience participating in activities to advance an inclusive environment that values equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging. Advanced ability to think creatively and propose innovative ideas, including the incorporation of new technologies or processes. Is able to work with agility in a fast-paced environment.
