Classroom Assistant
*Job Summary*
We are seeking a dedicated and energetic Classroom Assistant to join our client's vibrant educational community in St. Charles Parish. In this vital role, you will support Kindergarten teachers in creating a positive, engaging, and inclusive learning environment for students of diverse backgrounds and abilities. Your enthusiasm and commitment will help foster student growth, promote classroom harmony, and ensure that every child receives the attention and encouragement they need to thrive academically and socially. _Pay rate: $10.91/hour_
_Schedule: Mon-Friday 10am - 1pm_
_3 hours per day / 15 hours per week_
*Essential Duties*
* Administers a variety of instructional activities (e.g. tests, homework assignments, make-up work, paper grading, etc.) for supporting the teacher in the classroom.
* Assists with classroom activities, assignments and materials under the direction of the supervising teacher (e.g. worksheets, projects, teaching aids, etc.) for supporting and reinforcing classroom objectives.
* Attends meetings and professional learning opportunities (e.g. workshops, in-services, etc.) for acquiring and conveying information relative to job functions.
* Maintains instructional and student records (e.g. student assignments, portfolios, assessments, etc.) for providing accurate, documented progress in student learning.
* Maintains instructional areas, equipment and supplies for ensuring availability of items and providing a safe learning environment.
* Demonstrates positive support for the principles and practices of Responsive Classroom in order to build a learning community where high social and academic goals are both attained.
* Provides instructional services to students under the supervision of the assigned classroom teacher (e.g. small group work, individual instruction, supervision of testing, monitoring progress, etc.) for presenting and supporting learning outcomes.
* Responds to emergency situations (e.g. injured students, student disputes, etc.) for resolving immediate safety concerns and directing to appropriate personnel for resolution.
*Skills*
* Proven experience working with children in educational or childcare settings, including early childhood education or private school environments.
* Strong understanding of childhood development principles and behavior management techniques.
* Knowledge of special education practices, including working with students with autism or disabilities.
* Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration with teachers, parents, and students.
* Familiarity with educational compliance standards and regulations to ensure classroom safety and legal adherence.
* Ability to utilize computers and educational technologies effectively in lesson support.
* First aid and CPR certification to ensure safety during emergencies.
* Experience tutoring or mentoring young learners to foster academic growth in literacy, math, or other subjects.
* Responds to inquiries from a variety of people (e.g. students, instructors, administrators, etc.) for solving problems, providing information and referral.
* Supervises individual students and groups of students in a classrooms setting for maintaining a safe and positive learning environment.
