As a recognized leader in developing and operating supportive housing and community-based programs, The Bridge has 70 years of experience helping New Yorkers with mental illness, including those affected by homelessness, incarceration, and institutionalization.Scope of Position: Under the direction of the Operations Coordinator, the Shift Supervisor will oversee all program operations, front desk, and safety staff at the location during their assigned shift and any shift they are covering. They will carry out responsibilities delegated by their supervisors and perform routine activities specific to their shift, which may vary. All Shift Supervisors must possess or obtain a Certificate of Fitness as a Fire Safety Coordinator and will be responsible for coordinating and conducting fire drills.The Shift Supervisor will prioritize the safety of all tenants and program staff. They will act as a liaison between shifts, as well as with the Facilities and Maintenance Departments. They are also responsible for ensuring coverage for the next shift in the event of unexpected absences and will provide coverage themselves when necessary.Essential Position FunctionsMaintain the daily operations of the Safe Haven and act as the primary supervisor during the assigned shift. Function as the primary on-site manager, consulting with management and administrative staff as necessary.Maintain an atmosphere of teamwork within and between shifts. Shift Supervisors are expected to lead by example and perform all duties assigned to the staff they supervise (e.g., rounds, meal service, security). They must also train all staff to perform all shift-related tasks.Directly supervise front desk and direct care/safety staff during your shift, and communicate with managers and other Shift Supervisors between shifts. Directly supervise Program Aides and take on the responsibility of directing all staff when other managers are not present, including delegating tasks to non-Operations staff as needed.Coordinate and assist with on-site crisis intervention, and be available to support staff from other shifts when on-site.Ensure coverage for the following shift and remain on-site as needed to provide coverage and/or assistance.Maintain status as a Licensed Fire Safety Coordinator (F-80), and ensure that all other staff obtain either an F-80 or F-02 (Fire Guard) Certificate of Fitness if required. Ensure adequate coverage of Fire Safety, First Aid/CPR, and Food Service personnel across all shifts.Manage CARES reporting to the NYC Department of Homeless Services. Document all significant client engagements in both the AWARDS and CARES systems.Recognize that each shift has unique responsibilities. Shift Supervisors must be prepared to perform the duties of all shifts, as needed.Communicate any issues that arise during your shift—with the assistance of your staff—to other shifts, managers, DHS, and the Facilities Department (using RealPage for repair requests) as needed.Prepare the program for inspections and regularly assist the Program Director and Operations Coordinator in maintaining a clean, organized, and comfortable environment.Perform all required administrative tasks. Review the visitor logbook and safety logbook for quality assurance. Reinforce program policies and procedures consistently.Attend staff meetings, supervision sessions, and training as required.Interact with the client population in a polite and professional manner while maintaining appropriate personal boundaries. Be able to accept residents’ behavior and remain composed during crisis situations or when engaging individuals who may present behavioral challenges.Report any incidents or disruptive behavior to supervisory staff promptly.Perform other duties as assigned, including filling in for Program Aides, managing the front desk, conducting rounds, escorting clients, and serving meals as needed.QualificationsBachelor’s degree preferred, with a minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience.Experience working with the street homeless population is required.Prior experience supervising staff is strongly preferred.Fire Safety Coordinator (F-80) Certificate of Fitness required at time of hire or must be obtained within six months of hire.Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.Spanish-speaking ability is a plus.The Bridge Inc. is an Affirmative Action / Equal Opportunity Employer
