Apprentice Structural Cabling Technician (Houston)

Apprentice Cable Installer Location: Houston, Texas Position Summary Network Cabling Services (NCS) is seeking a motivated Apprentice Cable Installer to assist with the installation of structured cabling systems for commercial, industrial, and institutional projects. This entry-level position is ideal for individuals interested in building a career in low-voltage technology, structured cabling, and telecommunications. Working under the direction of experienced technicians, the Apprentice Cable Installer will learn to install, terminate, label, test, and troubleshoot voice, data, and fiber optic cabling while following company safety standards and industry best practices. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Assist with the installation of structured cabling systems, including Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6A, fiber optic, coaxial, and other low-voltage cabling. Pull, route, secure, and dress cables through conduit, cable trays, J-hooks, raceways, and other cable pathways. Assist with terminating and testing copper and fiber optic cabling. Learn to read blueprints, floor plans, wiring diagrams, and cable pathway drawings. Install cable support systems, including conduit, cable trays, ladder racks, sleeves, and raceways. Label cables, patch panels, faceplates, and equipment according to project specifications. Document cable installations and testing results accurately. Assist senior technicians with troubleshooting, repairs, and system installations. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment. Follow OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and customer site requirements. Properly use hand tools, power tools, testing equipment, and personal protective equipment (PPE). Perform other duties as assigned by project leadership. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED preferred. Ability to learn structured cabling installation techniques. Basic mechanical aptitude and willingness to work with hand and power tools. Strong work ethic, reliability, and willingness to learn. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation preferred. Ability to travel to various project sites as needed. Preferred Qualifications Previous experience in commercial construction, low-voltage installation, electrical work, telecommunications, or structured cabling. OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification. Experience using hand tools, power tools, and cable installation equipment. Basic understanding of structured cabling standards and installation practices. Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and climb for extended periods. Lift, carry, and move up to 50 pounds. Ability to work on ladders, scaffolds, lifts, and in confined spaces. Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, humidity, cold, and rain. Willingness to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, and overtime, based on project requirements.
