Repair Welder - Level III - Level IV

Perform repairs and/or product improvement welding updates on steel structures for all-terrain and crawler cranes and other components of Liebherr Ehingen products throughout the United States. Fit, weld, and repair steel structures and machine components on above mentioned machines in accordance with manufacturer specifications working with highly sensitive high strength steel. Organize job-sites to perform repairs and / or modifications on his/ her own in a clean and safe manner. Fit, weld and build steel fabrications as needed for and around the workshop as directed. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for current or future sponsorship.ResponsibilitiesLevel IAssist senior welders with crane repair and fabrication workPerform basic SMAW and GMAW welding under supervisionClean, prep, and grind materials before and after weldingRead simple blueprints and welding symbolsOperate basic shop equipment and hand toolsMaintain clean and safe work areasFollow all company safety requirementsLearn crane structural components and repair proceduresLevel IIAll Level I duties, plus:Perform basic structural repairs with minimal supervisionWeld carbon steel components using GMAW, SMAW, and gouging processesRepair cracks, worn sections, and damaged crane assembliesRead drawings and welding procedures independentlyConduct basic fit-up and layout workOperate grinders, torches, plasma cutters, and fabrication equipmentAssist senior welders on larger scale repair jobsComplete quality inspections on finished weldsOperate overhead cranes and rigging equipment safelyDocumentation of performed work (Service Report, Photos, Expense Report, Timesheet).Responsible for the proper storage/handling of steel tubes, plates and lacings.Perform damage inspections with assistanceResponsible for the proper and safe storage/handling of High/Low pressure gas tanks/bottles.Level IIIAll Level II duties, plus:Perform complex structural crane repairs and rebuildsWeld critical load-bearing crane componentsInterpret metric engineering drawings and repair proceduresPerform gouging, crack repairs, and structural reinforcementTrain and mentor lower-level weldersKnowledge in performing NDTOperate overhead cranes and rigging equipment safelyWork with engineering to resolve repair challengesPerform field welding repairs as requiredSuccessfully completes all required weld tests and maintains ability to perform welding practices.Prepares for travelling to jobsites as required (Tooling, Material, travel organization, etc…).Perform damage inspections with accuracyMentors Levels 1-2Level IV (Curriculum Development Team Lead)All Level III duties, plus:Lead repair welding crews on crane rebuild projectsEnsure compliance with welding procedures and quality standardsCoordinate with managers and customersAbility to perform difficult structural and component repairsReview repair scopes and material requirementsConduct weld inspections and documentation reviewsMentors Levels 1-3CompetenciesLevel I0–1 years of welding or fabrication experienceTechnical school or welding certification preferredBasic understanding of welding safety and shop practicesBasic weld qualitySafe tool handlingAbility to follow instructionsBasic measuring and layout skillsLevel II1–2 years of welding and fabrication experienceExperience in heavy equipment, structural steel, or crane manufacturing preferredAWS D1.1 Certified WelderDemonstrated proficiency as Level I, plus:Ability to pass visual weld inspectionsUnderstanding of heat distortion and weld sequencingModerate blueprint interpretation skillsAbility to work independently on standard repairsLevel III 3–5 years of heavy structural welding experienceExtensive crane, heavy equipment, or industrial repair experienceDemonstrated proficiency as Level II, plus:Advanced GMAW/SMAW welding proficiencyAbility to weld in multiple positionsStrong understanding of metallurgy and preheat requirementsAbility to identify structural defects and repair solutionsLevel IV 5+ years of structural welding and crane repair experienceLeadership or crew lead experience preferredDemonstrated proficiency as Level III plus:Expert-level structural welding abilityStrong leadership and communication skillsAdvanced blueprint and fitting abilitiesAdditional Requirements:Travel domestically and internationally up to 80% of the timeAbility to obtain and maintain a valid driver license, T.W.I.C. card and passport.
