Systems EngineerThe Systems Engineer must be able to script, batch, do app support at the server or system layer. Looking for experience scripting to resolve server problems. The candidate needs to have worked with SQL, and Oracle would be a huge plus. This candidate will need to be able to build up & support Linux but they are NOT looking for an admin and they will not be doing typical admin work. This person should be able to look at CPUs, scripts, etc. and be able to work with them. An understanding of the apps side/trouble shooting is important.Topic - Items - Color CommentaryScripting - Python, Linux Shell, PowerShell, Perl - Min can read/write in one or more, preferred two or more.OS - Linux, Windows Server - Min Linux, better if both. Can use command line to navigate/execute, preferred if maintained OS.Dev Tools - Visual Studio, Eclipse, IntelliJ, notepad++, vi/vim. - Should know how to use something more than MS Word and notepad to edit files.Web/App - Apache, Tomcat, WebSphere, JBoss, Kubernetes - Min working knowledge of what any of them do, better if configured/maintained.DevOps Chain - Gitlab, Jenkins/Cloudbees, Rancher - General understanding of DevOps tools, preferred has used or managed.Database - Oracle, SQL Server, Postgres, MongoDB - Min can read and write basic SQL queries, preferred has modified schemas or managed DBs.Cloud - AWS - Preferred some experience building & maintaining servers/DBs in the cloud.Other Tools - Putty, SOAP UI, Web Browser dev mode - Should know at least a few different tools to connect/test/troubleshoot with.Protocols - HTTP, HTTPS, SSH, SFTP - Min working knowledge of what they do, better if know how to troubleshoot issues.Office Apps - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Teams, Sharepoint - Min understands why vlookups are your friend, preferred power user of two or more.Search & Analytics - ELK, Splunk, Grafana - Preferred some experience using any tool (querying, creating dashboards, etc.)Data Formats - XML, JSON, YAML, HTML - Min can read and understand at least 2, preferred all.Security - Vulnerabilities, Patching - Min understands why "0 day" is very bad. Preferred if they have a funny log4j story to share.Monitoring - App Dynamics, Prometheus, Cloudwatch - Min exp. using any monitoring tools to identify trends, troubleshoot issues, generate alerts.Networking - DNS, Firewalls, Load Balancers, Network Sniffing - Min understands what they do, preferred if general knowledge of how to setup/use one.
