Any applicants having a confirmed positive test shall not be eligible for employment.Key Responsibilities:Repair, construct and alter wooden structures (i.e. partitions, counters, doors, prefab furniture, window frames, concrete forms, furnish door hardware and suspended ceiling systems)Perform mill and cabinet work; build closets, bookcases and shelvingInstall acoustical tiles, floor tile, baseboard and trim, ceramic tile, tack boards and marker boardsOperate floor sanding equipment, lathes, planes, joiners, band saws, power tools and other woodworking equipmentCut glass for desk tops; cut and/or install mirrors; repair existing windowsRegular and on-time attendance requiredPerform other related duties, as assigned, to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unitPerform repairs to various types or roof systems (i.e. build-up, shingles and single-ply)May prepare working drawings from sketchesMay direct the work of helpersHelp write job scopes and specificationsMay supervise outside contractorsAssist other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activitiesAssists with other assigned duties as appropriate to the area of assignment and Mesa Public SchoolsRequired Qualifications:High school education or equivalent requiredValid Arizona driver's licenseMinimum five years' carpenter experienceExperience with and Working knowledge of tools, materials, methods and safe working practices of the carpenter tradeSkills & Competencies:Models the attributes and skills of the MPS Portrait of a GraduateDemonstrates commitment to the MPS Promise that every student is known by name, served by strength and need, and graduates ready for college, career and communityAbility to read and work from blueprints and to layout work assignmentAbility to care for equipment and toolsComputer proficiency to include use of basic software applications (Word, Excel, gmail, etc)Ability to lift and /or to move up to 100 pounds and to work at various heightsAbility to communicate effectively (written and verbal) and to work well with coworkers and district personnelAbility to work overtime and to change schedules with minimal notice; willingness to work non-regular hours (weekends, night shift, swing shift, holidays)Work Environment & Physical Requirements:Carpenters work inside classrooms, hallways, and offices as well as outside on playgrounds, athletic facilities, and school exteriorsWork takes place in various buildings, including elementary, middle, and high schools, as well as administrative officesExposure to dust, wood particles, adhesives, paints, and other construction materialsUse of power tools, saws, drills, and heavy machinery; working on ladders, scaffolding, or lifts; risk of cuts, bruises, or back injuriesBending, kneeling, crawling, and climbing ladders or scaffolding.Ability to lift and /or to move up to 100 pounds and to work at various heightsEqual Opportunity Employer Statement:Mesa Public Schools is an equal opportunity employer and complies with all applicable federal, state, and local laws regarding equal employment opportunity and anti-discrimination.
