Details Position is in a 30-bed acute care Med/Surg overflow unit Typical patient diagnoses include CHF, COPD, cellulitis, cholecystitis, appendicitis, pneumonia, urosepsis, and acute kidney injury Nurse-to-patient ratio is typically 1:6 to 1:7 Heparin drips are titrated based on aPTT results Telemonitoring is present and managed by monitor techs Intermittent BiPAP is used, but no ventilators Patient care assistants (PCTs) support the unit Uses Epic for electronic medical records (EMR) 12-hour night shifts or rotating day/night shifts, with scheduled weekends No on-call requirement Floating to other units may be required based on census, with external travelers first to float Navy blue scrubs are required Requirements Active WV or compact RN license Minimum 2 years of acute Med/Surg nursing experience Current BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certifications Ability to manage a patient assignment up to 1:7 Must provide a copy of an unexpired driver’s license for consideration Additional Information Position may require floating to other units as needed Charge nurse present on the floor with their own patient assignment Scheduled for approximately half of all weekends and holidays as needed Local candidates are not eligible within a 50-mile radius of the facility Former employees must have a 2-year break before returning as travelers, cumulative experience applies across WVU Medicine locations Travelers cannot work at WVU facilities for longer than one year without a 2-year break First-time travelers will be considered American Traveler Job ID P-670276.
