UI Software Engineer

About the RoleJump Trading is seeking a Campus UI Software Engineer Intern to join its Core Development team in Chicago, Illinois. This intensive 10-week internship provides hands-on experience building web-based applications that interact with components of a real-time trading platform.As an intern, you will work with TypeScript, Python, and modern web frameworks while contributing to production code. You will gain practical experience across the full software development lifecycle, including development, testing, and release using Agile methodologies. The internship is also a primary pathway for full-time and return internship opportunities with Jump Trading's core development team.Key ResponsibilitiesBuild web-based applications using TypeScript, Python, and modern web frameworks.Develop software that interacts with components of a real-time trading platform.Work on production code in a fast-paced engineering environment.Participate in the full-cycle development, testing, and software release process.Apply Agile methodologies throughout development.Solve complex technical problems and develop optimal solutions from the ground up.Collaborate with team members while deploying new software regularly.Perform other duties as assigned or needed.Required QualificationsHands-on experience and strong proficiency in one or more of the following:Web development using Python and TypeScript.Python development on the Linux platform.Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, and threading models.Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced team environment.Ability to support frequent software deployment.Passion for solving complex problems and learning to build optimized solutions from scratch.Interest in applying knowledge across areas such as hardware, networking, and operating system design to develop high-performance software.Reliable and predictable availability.Preferred QualificationsExperience or comfort working with React.Experience using Claude Code in a real work environment.Previous internship or professional experience in software development.No finance or economics background is required.Skills & CompetenciesPythonTypeScriptWeb DevelopmentLinuxReactData StructuresAlgorithmsThreading ModelsModern Web FrameworksAgile Software DevelopmentSoftware TestingSoftware ReleaseProblem SolvingHigh-Performance Software DevelopmentTeam CollaborationEducation & ExperienceEducationThe source listing does not specify a required degree or field of study.ExperienceHands-on proficiency in relevant web or Python development is required.
