If so, then come join a passionate team supporting environmental operations across the organization, where you'll collaborate to implement environmental programs, strengthen compliance culture, and ensure the business is continually improving.The OpportunityReporting to the Environmental, Health, Safety, and Security (EHSS) Manager, the Environmental Specialist will:Support environmental compliance and day-to-day environmental operations across multiple manufacturing and landfill sites, ensuring adherence to applicable regulations and permits.Partner cross-functionally to assess environmental risk, implement compliance programs, and drive continuous improvement aligned with business and customer objectives.Coordinate inspections, investigations, and corrective actions related to environmental and EHSS incidents, including root cause analysis and follow-through.Manage regulatory reporting, recordkeeping, and audits for agencies such as EPA, DOT, OSHA, and other governing bodies.Assist with landfill oversight, including compliance, usage tracking, and coordination with engineering on landfill cell construction.Promote environmental awareness and a strong safety and compliance culture through collaboration, training, and effective communication.The QualificationsThe right candidate will be a self-motivated, detail-oriented environmental professional who thrives in a regulated manufacturing environment. They will bring strong ethical judgment, critical thinking, and confidence to lead investigations, influence others, and partner cross-functionally. In addition, they will be organized, proactive, and passionate about continuous improvement, environmental compliance, and building strong EHSS culture across the organization. Your credentials ideally include:Bachelor's degree in environmental, engineering, health & safety, or another technical field2-5 years of relevant experience in a regulated chemical manufacturing or chemical-using facilityStrong organizational skills with the ability to management multiple priorities and deadlinesProven critical thinking skills and high ethical standardsEffective written and verbal communication skills; ability to work collaboratively in a team environmentAbility to obtain an Industrial Class K Wastewater license and Certified Landfill Operator licenseExperience with environmental permitting, compliance audits, root cause analysis, and interaction with regulatory agenciesDemonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and positively influence others without direct authorityWorking knowledge of EPA FESOP and Title V, NPDES/POTW, RCRA, and solid waste landfill operationsThe CompanyCarus is a highly respected, family-owned company with deep roots in Illinois' Starved Rock Country.
