RAIL TRACK SUPERVISOR
Supervises personnel in the repair and maintenance of rail track, including its supporting infrastructure, to help ensure a safe track structure for the public.Recruitment Timeline: Written Exams are projected to be scheduled for the week of March 30, 2026. We encourage you to monitor your governmentjobs.com profile and emails for the latest updates.Plans, organizes, and assigns repair and maintenance work of track-related systems and equipment, including roadbeds, ties, rails, frogs, and replacement of track switches in yards and on the mainlineInvestigates, troubleshoots, and diagnoses track system and equipment problems and develops maintenance proceduresConducts track inspections and reviews and approves track inspection reportsDevelops and administers preventive maintenance program; maintains tracking system of all repairs and maintenance work performed, inspections, and equipment and system performanceDevelops and administers staff training programsEnforces safety regulations and instructs subordinates on the use of safety devices and proceduresProvides input on design and maintenance of track system for new rail projects to ensure compliance with operational needs and design standardsResponds to emergency calls to ensure proper restoration of track following system failuresIdentifies equipment and materials needed to maintain track system; initiates requisitions for parts, material, equipment, and outside labor procurement necessary to perform designated maintenanceProvides flagging assistance during revenue service periods to control local train movementAssists staff with repair and maintenance during revenue service periodsUtilizes hand-held radios to effectively communicate with staff and direct equipment during revenue and non-revenue service periodsOversees and implements repairs to equipment and materials, including external vendors and/or other parties who make repairs to revenue and non-revenue service equipmentProvides hands-on training to employees utilizing live equipment which supports revenue and non-revenue service periodsOrganizes, supervises, and provides guidance to subordinatesContributes to ensuring that the Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) policies and programs of Metro are carried outMay be required to perform other related job dutiesA combination of education and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position. Additional experience, as outlined below, may be substituted for required education on a year-for-year basis. A typical combination includes:Education* Associate's Degree in a related field or equivalent training from a recognized trade schoolExperience* Three years of relevant experience performing installation, repair, and maintenance of rail track facilities and equipmentCertifications/Licenses/Special Requirements* Must comply with all California Occupational Safety & Health Act (Cal/OSHA) regulations and utilize approved safety equipment and protective gear "including but not limited" to respirators and/or hearing protective devices (HPD), if and when required* Frequent exposure to energized overhead catenary or contact rail power distribution, long-line freight and vehicular traffic* Must have normal color vision* Overtime, on call, weekend/holiday work required when necessary* Valid California Class C Driver License* Positions in this job classification are considered safety-sensitive and subject to drug and alcohol testing, including random testing, under Federal Transit Administration (FTA) regulationsKnowledge of (defined as a learned body of information that is required for and applied in the performance of job tasks)Theories, principles, practices, and procedures of repair and maintenance of rail trackMaterials and equipment used for track installation, repair and maintenanceInspection methodsStandard safety operating procedures for entering and working on track systemsPrinciples of supervisionSkill in (defined as the proficient manual, verbal, or mental utilization of data, people, or things)Planning, organizing, and monitoring the work of inspection, installation, repair, and maintenance of rail track functionsAnalyzing situations, identifying problems, and recommending solutionsCommunicating effectively orally and in writingAbility to (defined as a present competence to perform an observable behavior or produce an observable result)Understand, interpret, and apply laws, rules, regulations, policies, procedures, contracts, budgets, and labor/management agreementsPrepare comprehensive reports and correspondenceMaintain records, logs, and files of activitiesInteract professionally with various levels of employees and outside representativesSupervise subordinates Read, write, speak, and understand EnglishSpecial ConditionsThe physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by the employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
