Senior Electrical Design Engineer (Long Beach)

Job SummaryAs the Design Manager – Electrical, you will oversee the electrical design process for major multi-family residential and high-density construction projects. You will ensure that all electrical systems are engineered to meet client expectations, building codes, energy efficiency milestones, and project budgets, while collaborating closely with architects, structural engineers, and cross-functional MEP teams.Key ResponsibilitiesDesign LeadershipLead Complex Designs: Oversee multi-family new construction engineering, including load calculations, panel schedules, circuiting, feeder sizing, grounding, lighting layouts, and power distribution systems.Documentation & Compliance: Develop and oversee construction drawings, specifications, and schematics. Ensure strict adherence to NEC, NFPA, Title 24, and local building/energy codes.Technical Guidance: Provide strategic technical direction and act as the subject matter expert for the engineering team.Team Management & CoordinationMentorship: Manage, mentor, and grow a team of electrical engineers, designers, and drafters assigning tasks and monitoring project velocity.Design Reviews: Conduct thorough QA/QC and design reviews to optimize constructability and cost efficiency.Project Controls & Risk: Manage schedules, budgets, RFIs, and change orders early in the design cycle to mitigate project risks.Pre-Construction Support: Assist with design proposals, cost estimates, and value engineering options.Client & Project CollaborationPrimary Point of Contact: Act as the technical lead and main interface for electrical design elements with clients, consultants, and field teams.Sustainable Innovation: Actively participate in value engineering sessions, integrating green solutions like solar PV systems, EV charging infrastructure, smart building controls, and energy-efficient lighting.Education & Experience:Degree: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent (Required).Experience: 8+ years of total experience in electrical design within the construction/MEP industry, featuring 3–5 years in a leadership or managerial role.Licensure: Professional Engineer (PE) licensure required (3+ years preferred).Project Portfolio: Proven track record specifically working on multi-family residential, mixed-use, or large-scale commercial project designs.Certifications: LEED accreditation or PMP certification is a plus.Technical SkillsSoftware Mastery: Advanced proficiency in building design and modeling tools (Revit MEP / AutoCAD) and standard electrical design calculation software.Tools: Familiarity with standard industry coordination, clash detection, and document control software (e.g., Navisworks, Bluebeam).Domain Knowledge: Deep understanding of power distribution, emergency systems, low-voltage, arc flash analysis, and renewable energy integration.
