Job Title: Technical Writer – Engineering Document & Contract DeliverablesLocation: Frederick, MD or Columbia, MD (Hybrid 3 days onsite)Duration: 12months + ExtensionsPosition OverviewThe Technical Writer will serve as the principal reviewer of engineering deliverables and contractual Contract Data Requirements Lists (CDRLs) for the R&S portfolio. The role centers on ensuring that all technical documentation and CDRL submissions meet contract terms, government standards, and internal quality expectations while also providing support for related documentation activities.Core ResponsibilitiesApply DD Form 1423 (CDRL) and Data Item Descriptions (DIDs) to verify that each deliverable satisfies contractual requirementsAnalyze DIDs to determine formatting and content constraints for new CDRLs.Perform quality assurance on engineering documents (technical data reports, user manuals, maintenance manuals, software development reports) to ensure accuracy, proper formatting, and compliance with the Statement of Work.Provide red‐line comments on diagrams, charts, and tables to improve technical deliverables.Maintain document version histories using configuration‐management tools (Git, SharePoint, etc.) and ensure accurate delivery records.Create and manage document templates that align with R&S design guidelines, industry standards, and government‐style proposals.Ensure adherence to accepted style guides and US‐government formatting conventions.Work closely with engineers, operators, and subject‐matter experts; coach them in persuasive and compliant writing when needed.Prepare final documents for printed/bound and digital distribution, incorporating graphics (flowcharts, Visio diagrams, screen‐captures) as part of the message.Manage classified or otherwise sensitive information in accordance with security requirementsRequired QualificationsBachelor's degree in Technical Communication, English, or a related field.5–10 years of professional technical writing/editing experience, preferably in aerospace, defense, or government contracting environments.Direct experience with CDRL/DID processes and DD Form 1423Demonstrated expertise with US‐government style guides and proposal formats.Advanced proficiency in MS Word, publishing tools (InDesign, Acrobat), and office software (PowerPoint, SharePoint, Excel, Project).Strong visual‐documentation skills (Visio, flowcharting, screen‐capture tools).Exceptional attention to detail and a deadline‐oriented work ethic.
