Position Summary: The Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) functions as a vital member of the surgical team, working under the supervision of the surgeon and circulating registered nurse. The CST ensures the operating room environment is safe, equipment is functioning properly, and surgical procedures are conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety. This role requires proficiency in surgical techniques, human anatomy, aseptic principles, and the use of advanced surgical tools and technologies. Responsibilities: Prepare the operating room by ensuring availability and sterility of instruments, supplies, and equipment. Accurately set up case carts and surgical trays according to surgeon preference cards. Anticipate the needs of the surgeon and surgical team during procedures, ensuring efficiency and safety. Scrub in on surgical cases across multiple specialties, including but not limited to General Surgery, Orthopedics, GYN, ENT, Plastics, Urology, Neuro, and Robotics. Maintain strict adherence to sterile technique and infection control protocols. Assist with positioning, prepping, and draping of patients for surgical procedures. Monitor equipment function and communicate issues promptly to the surgical team. Participate in surgical counts (sponges, instruments, sharps) to ensure accuracy and patient safety. Handle specimens according to established guidelines for labeling, storage, and transfer. Assist with room turnover, including cleaning and preparing for subsequent procedures. Support and mentor new staff or surgical technology students as assigned. Collaborate with the surgical and sterile processing departments to ensure proper instrument availability and function. Qualifications: High School Diploma or equivalent required. Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program or equivalent military training. Certification as a Surgical Technologist (CST) required – NBSTSA. BLS certification required; ACLS preferred. Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Surgical Technologist with exposure to multiple specialties preferred. Proficiency in scrubbing for orthopedic, GYN, general, and robotic procedures strongly desired. Knowledge of sterilization, disinfection, and aseptic techniques essential.
