Medical Records Clerk InternThe Medical Records Clerk Intern's primary responsibility will be to submit records requests and retrieve medical records for risk adjustment and as needed for HEDIS projects. The records clerk monitors and documents record requests and retrievals in the chase report daily. The records clerk tracks all outbound requests and inbound responses, issues, and record collection. The medical records clerk reports to the risk adjustment supervisor and is an office-based position.Key Responsibilities:Manage and track the outbound and inbound record requestsEnsures the medical records are organized, accurate, and completeEnsuring compliance with records retention, destruction of physical recordsFocus on project workflows, utilizing EHR/EMR for the retrieval of medical recordsFax record request and perform follow-up or check status on records requested. Includes updating the provider's fax and phone numberOutbound records request and processing of inbound records for risk adjustment, QI, and HEDIS teams.Keeping the supervisor informed of problems or issues with record retrievalsScanning and processing of inbound records that come from the mail roomInbound record management by organizing records, combining records, and extracting records from the combined member recordsAccess to the provider group(s) EHR/EMR systems, such as EPIC and Cerner, pulling and organizing recordsResponding to requests for records – inbound and outbound with provider groupsRequest and receive medical records for ad-hoc audit projectsQualifications:Effective communication and collaboration abilitiesExcellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills.High attention to detailSelf-motivatedAbility to maintain records and filesAbility to maintain confidentialityOrganizational skills and telephone etiquette skillsInterpersonal and human relations skillsProficient with Adobe PDF, MS Word, and ExcelEducation/Experience:High school diploma or currently enrolled in high school (or equivalent education level).Medical office experience preferredKnowledge of modern scan/fax and printer equipmentUnderstanding administration processesCommunityCare is an equal opportunity at will employer and does not discriminate against any employee or applicant for employment because of age, race, religion, color, disability, sex, sexual orientation or national origin
