The K4 form should be dated within 30 days of submitting your application.Type-1 School Bus Special Driver Certificate with code 0, 1, or 6 restrictions (from DMV)Class A or Class B California Driver License with passenger endorsement or equivalentCurrent medical certificate approved by the DMVCurrent first aid cardONLY APPLICANTS WHO SUPPLY THE ABOVE DOCUMENTS WILL BE TESTED.Essential DutiesDrives a school bus or transportation vehicle over assigned routes in accordance with an established time schedule.Transports children to and from school.Loads and unloads students safely at designated stops and on study trips.Adheres to District policies and procedures regarding student discipline, and public contact with parents and community members.Performs daily safety inspections.Stops traffic and escorts children across streets, when necessary.Prepares daily reports on student loads, mileage, type of trip, and standby time.Reports problems or equipment malfunctions.Transports children with special needs.Washes, sweeps, mops, and polishes the interior of a school bus or transportation vehicle.Performs minor first aid.Cleans up after ill children.OTHER RELATED DUTIESMay remove graffiti from bus seats.Perform other related duties as assigned.DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS AMONG RELATED CLASSES Bus Driver operates a school bus, over designated routes within established time schedules, transporting students to and from school and on special event trips. Dispatcher prepares student transportation routes and bus driver schedules for home-to-school, special education and extra-curricular trips, and provide work direction and guidance to bus drivers Bus Driver Trainer assists in planning and supervising the school pupil transportation program to train drivers, and to do other work as directed.Minimum QualificationsEducation: No education required. Experience: No experience required. Special:Possession of a Type-1 School Bus Special Driver Certificate issued by the California Department of Motor Vehicles.Possession of a valid Class A or Class B California Driver License with passenger endorsement or equivalent, including current medical certificate approved by the California Department of Motor Vehicles.Must be able to be insured, and continue to be insurable, by the District's liability insurance carrier.Applicants must provide the Personnel Commission Office with a copy of their current ten year driving record, obtainable from any office of the California Department of Motor Vehicles, at the time of application.This classification has been designated as safety-sensitive in accordance with Public Law 102-143 and requires a pre-employment drug test as well as a continued drug-free lifestyle for continued employment.Successfully complete a pre-employment physical examination.Ideal candidates will haveKnowledge of:Safe driving practices.Basic first aid.Basic safety and maintenance requirements of automotive equipment.Provisions of the California Motor Vehicle Code and the Education Code and the California Administrative Code, Title 13 applicable to the transportation of students.Ability to:Drive a Type-1, 76 passenger, or more, standard shift or automatic transmission school bus with air brakes safely and efficiently.Maintain appropriate student behavior on a school bus.Follow oral and written directions.Learn the proper methods of bus safety inspections and maintenance.Handle situations with tact and diplomacy.BUS DRIVER REQUIREMENTSExamination and Application ProcessThe screening and examination process for this position, which may be subject to modification, is designed to ensure a fair and job-related evaluation of all candidates.
