Senior ClerkThe Department of Health in Pinellas has a Senior Clerk position open in the Medical Services Program at the St. Petersburg Health Department. Job Summary-Senior Clerk: The successful incumbent will work in the admitting/eligibility department and also perform cashier duties. This position involves regular contact with a diverse population both in person and over the phone and will require working with sensitive and confidential information.Your Specific Responsibilities:Uses multiple computer applications to determine client financial eligibility for services based on established criteria for new and established clientsAssists clients with completion of consents, forms and applications as neededCollects and updates client demographic informationSchedules client appointments and completes appointment reminder phone callsCompletes client check out process by billing and accepting payments from clients for services received at DOH Pinellas using the Health Management System (HMS)Provides receipts to clientsReconciles cash, check and credit card paymentsPrepares the bank deposit daily and completes the cashier close out process in accordance with all documented procedures and policiesResolves routine billing errors and omissions with clinic staffOrganizes and maintains client billing records, processes client refunds, billing reconciliation reports, retrieves client insurance eligibility information in Change Healthcare SystemAnswers routine billing questions from and staff and clientsScans and attaches documents to client medical recordsProcess requests for copies of medical records in accordance with State law and HIPAAUses various office equipment including telephones, fax, copy machines and scannersOrders supplies for admitting area when neededRequired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Knowledge of medical insuranceKnowledge of patient confidentiality lawsStrong internal and external customer service skillsStrong verbal and written communication skills in addition to good listening skillsAbility to prioritize work, identify changing priorities and adjust as neededAbility to self-monitor work for accuracy and maximum productivityAbility to use multiple computer programs and software such as Microsoft office to retrieve and/or input dataAbility to independently solve problemsAbility to work effectively and cooperatively with othersAbility to work with a diverse populationAbility to review data for accuracy and completenessAbility to perform mathematical calculationsAbility to prepare accurate reports and correspondenceQualifications:Minimum: At least 2 years of computer experienceAt least 2 years' experience working in a fast-paced customer service positionPreferred: 6 months' cash handling experienceAt least 1 year experience working in a medical office settingBilingual in Spanish and EnglishThe Benefits of Working for the State of Florida:Working for the State of Florida is more than a paycheck.
