An incumbent in this position may be designated "Parks Maintenance Team leader."Major DutiesParticipates in a wide variety of maintenance of city parks, athletic fields, and related facilities; performs turf management duties; prepares athletic fields for play.Oversees the installation and maintenance of landscaping.Provides senior level feedback and guidance to lesser-experienced team members.Ensures work is performed in compliance with all relevant rules and regulations.Assists in preparing for tournaments, special events, and programs, including experience based recommendations and suggestions for improvements.Trims, removes and provides care for trees, bushes and ornamental plants.Inspects playground and reports maintenance needs to supervisor.Assists in the repair and maintenance of tools and equipment.Performs minor carpentry, plumbing, and electrical repairs.Repairs irrigation systems.Collects leaves.Operates a backhoe, sod cutter, top dresser, tractor, etc.Maintains walking trails.Maintains fences.Performs related duties.Minimum QualificationsRequires a high school diploma or equivalent, with additional trade school or specialty training/certification in parks maintenance disciplines (i.e. grounds maintenance, turf maintenance, horticulture, arborist, etc.) is preferred.Five or more years of directly related experience within the department.Must possess a Class B CDL.Knowledge of parks and grounds maintenance principles and practices.Knowledge of athletic field maintenance principles.Knowledge of turf management principles.Skill in the use of hand and power tools.Skill in the use of a variety of grounds maintenance tools and equipment.Skill in problem solving.Skill in interpersonal relations.Skill in oral and written communication.Supplemental InformationGuidelinesCity and department policies and procedures. Inclement weather contributes to the complexity of the work.The purpose of this position is to participate in the maintenance of city parks and recreation facilities. Successful performance in this position contributes to provision of safe and well-maintained parks.ContactsContacts are typically with coworkers, other city personnel, vendors, and the general public.Contacts are typically to give or exchange information, resolve problems, and provide services.Physical Demands/Work EnvironmentThe work requires the employee to frequently lift light and occasionally heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes the sense of smell. Will also require stooping, bending, climbing and walking.The work is typically performed outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee may be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, and machinery with moving parts.
