We offer patients convenient access to innovative treatments and advancements that improve the health and overall well-being of our community.ResponsibilitiesAbides by and enforces all compliance requirements and policies and performs these responsibilities in an ethical manner consistent with the organization's valuesAdheres to hospital policies including confidentialityParticipates in the evaluation of environmental and safety issues and intervenes appropriatelyAssists with orientation of new employees as assignedRequires minimal supervision to safely perform essential functionsUtilizes proper body mechanics when moving equipment that is necessary to perform essential functionsMaintains clean work area with appropriate forms and suppliesResponds to call lights and promptly relays information to the appropriate nursing personnelAcknowledges the presence of staff, physicians and visitors at the nursing stationRuns errands to support the needs of the unitProcesses requests and orders during computer downtimeChecks unit census and updates condition codesUtilizes personal computer or terminal to access the Hospital Information SystemsUtilizes the Hospital Information System to enter requests for unit maintenance and repairSchedule and coordinate diagnostic procedures and continued care/follow up appointmentsOrder supplies and unit inventoryEnter physician orders accurately and in a timely mannerProcess patient chargesCheck unit census and updates condition codesComplete patient transfers and dischargesUpdate patient diet needs daily on HISReplenishes chart stationaryServes as receptionistAnswers the telephone in a prompt and courteous mannerPerforms general clerical dutiesPrepares unit admission packsMonitors patients' charts frequently for signed MD ordersCommunicates and uses appropriate customer relation skills with physicians, patients, families and healthcare team in person and via telephoneResponds to overhead pagesNotifies Charge Nurse when leaving unitMaintains accurate and complete records by posting all forms and reports in correct orderUpdates Kardex as needed and completes orders by forwarding forms utilizing the FAX machinePerforms chart reductionMaintains a neat and properly ordered chartPrepares chart for Medical Records upon dischargeCompletes all mandatory unit, educational and hospital requirementsUtilizes cost effective practices in performing all aspects of the jobAdheres to Infection Control and Safety StandardsKeeps unit material/flow sheets stockedKeeps unit desk free of clutter at all timesTranscribes delivery information from the medical records into the delivery registerProcesses laboratory samples for analysis in a prompt and accurate mannerEnters patient charges on a daily basisParticipates on committees as assignedParticipates in Performance Improvement activities as assignedCompletes all mandatory department, educational and hospital requirementsAdheres to current Infection Control and Safety StandardsRegular and prompt attendanceAbility to work schedule as defined and overtime as requiredRelated duties as assignedAdditional InformationEmployees must be in a regular position, working 20 hours or more per week (.50 FTE or greater) to qualify for benefits.QualificationsHigh School Diploma or equivalent RequiredComparable combination of education and experience may substitute for the above requirements.Equal Employment Opportunity/Affirmative Action EmployerThe University of South Alabama is an Equal Opportunity Employer and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, pregnancy, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, religion, age, genetic information, disability, protected veteran status or any other applicable legally protected basis.
