We hope you will consider joining our dynamic team.Hours: 8:30am - 5:00pm M-FPosition Summary:This position plays a pivotal role in coordinating activities between out-patients, outlying clinics, and laboratory personnel. They are responsible for all aspects of meeting and greeting patients, answering all incoming calls, collecting, preparing, and processing all specimens for lab testing according to lab requisition. Complies with all state and federal regulations and company policy and procedures.Position Accountabilities:Maintain active phlebotomy certification required from one of the following nationally-recognized organizations: NHA, NAHP, ASCP, ACA, ASPT, NPA, AMT, NCPE, NPS, NCCTServes as the main patient greeter and liaison between lab personnel and customers, both internal and externalReceives all incoming calls for the department and, if necessary, refers them to the appropriate laboratory personnel after collecting all pertinent patient dataCollects appropriate specimens for lab testing according to lab protocols and state and federal regulatory agenciesVerifies and identifies patient by name and date of birthProperly labels all specimen containers with correct patient informationDirects and advises patients on techniques for the proper collection of specimensPrepares and processes both in-house and clinic blood and other body fluids as required prior to transporting to external reference laboratoryPerforms data entry of patient information and lab testsNotifies patients or other clinics of any necessary redraws and notifies provider of any improperly collected samplesInteracts closely with other laboratory personnel to ensure smooth and efficient work flowUnderstands the complex relationship between test(s) ordered and specimen receivedDemonstrates a thorough understanding of both the Electronic Medical Records (EMR) and Laboratory Information systems (Labdaq)Performs other duties as directed by supervisorJob Specifications:Minimum EducationHigh School Diploma or equivalentComplete a certifiable Phlebotomy course or other approved trainingMaintenance of an active phlebotomy certification required from a nationally recognized organizationMinimum ExperiencePhlebotomy experience requiredWorking Conditions/Physical DemandsCan distinguish colorsDemonstrates independent judgmentDemonstrates good communication andinterpersonal skillsRequires coordination and good manual dexterity skillsDemonstrates initiativePossesses ability to work under stressDemonstrates ability to organizeAbility to stand and/or sit for long periods of timeLifting up to 40 lbs. may be requiredWearing of protective masks, gloves, and goggles as necessary to prevent injury or contamination*This position may require travel to other Encompass Medical Group clinics.
