Assistant ControllerPosition SummaryThe Assistant Controller serves as a leader within the accounting team and acts as a key partner to the Corporate Controller in overseeing the company’s accounting operations. This role is responsible for managing the month‑end close process, ensuring accurate and timely financial results, driving process improvements, and maintaining strong internal controls in accordance with U.S. GAAP. The Assistant Controller will also mentor and develop accounting team members while supporting audits, technical accounting matters, and special projects.Key ResponsibilitiesAccounting Operations & Close ManagementLead and oversee the monthly close process, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of financial informationSign off on month‑end close deliverables and review key journal entries and reconciliationsManage and perform selected month‑end close procedures, including complex and judgmental areasOversee account reconciliation management, ensuring reconciliations are prepared timely, reviewed appropriately, and resolvedStandardize processes, templates, and files within the close processPerform and review analytical procedures and flux analysis to identify and explain variances and trendsAssist with budgeting for certain Company cost centersTechnical Accounting & Complex AreasOwn technical accounting research and documentation to ensure compliance with U.S. GAAPManage and/or prepare certain files related to:Debt, ensure monthly roll forwards are completed including the amortization of outstanding debt, and review of all debt-related accounting entriesPurchase accounting for acquisitions, including post‑close integrationsConsolidation accounting, including multi‑entity eliminations and intercompany activity, and restructure projectsOther technical accounting as assignedPrepare and maintain accounting memoranda and supporting documentation for complex transactionsSystems, Process Improvement & ControlsOversee FloQast implementation, optimization, and adoption, driving accountability and close disciplineLeverage financial systems and tools, including Spectrum and Prophix, to improve reporting and process efficiencyDesign, document, and improve accounting processes, identifying opportunities for standardization and automationIdentify, document, and strengthen internal controls, ensuring consistent application and audit readinessAudit & External SupportAssist with annual financial statement audits, lender audits, and other accounting‑related engagementsServe as an accounting liaison working with external auditors on designated areasPrepare audit schedules and support requests with clear and well‑organized documentationLeadership & Business PartnershipManage, mentor, and develop team members, providing coaching, feedback, and performance guidanceFoster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and professional developmentCollaborate cross‑functionally with Finance, FP&A, Treasury, Tax, and OperationsDemonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to clearly explain accounting mattersEffectively manage multiple deadlines, competing priorities, and special projects as assigned by the CFO, Corporate Controller, and othersQualificationsRequiredCPA required10+ years of progressive accounting experience, primarily in industryStrong expertise in U.S. GAAP, including consolidation and technical accountingProven experience leading or managing the month‑end close processDemonstrated ability to design and maintain effective accounting processes and controlsExperience supporting audits and working with external auditorsExperience managing team members and overseeing various accounting areasStrong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlinesPreferredExperience in a large, complex private company environmentAudit experience in a public accounting firmHands‑on experience with FloQast, Spectrum, and ProphixM&A and purchase accounting experiencePrior people‑management experience with a track record of team developmentWhy This Role MattersThis position is critical to the accounting team providing leadership over core accounting operations while partnering closely with senior finance leadership to support business growth, scalability, and financial integrity.Equal Employment OpportunityFarmer Companies is an equal opportunity employer.
