Maintenance Mechanic - Full Time

Maintenance Mechanic 2026-27 School Year POSITION TYPE: Full-time HOURS, SCHEDULE - 260 days - 7 am - 3:30 pm START DATE: 7/1/2026 PAY: Please note that the salary for this position is currently listed as "To Be Determined" for the 2026-27 school year. The District and the Classified Union are currently in collective bargaining, and the final salary and cost-of-living adjustments (COLA) will be established once the new contract is ratified. We will provide updated compensation details as soon as they become available. The current pay for this position (2025-26 school year) is $23.15 to $30.42. RETIREMENT CONTRIBUTION: The North Santiam School District participates in the Oregon Public Employee Retirement System (PERS and OPSRP) on behalf of its employees. Upon eligibility, the district contributes 6% of an employee's salary to their Individual Account Program (IAP). Eligibility is defined as working at least six full calendar months in a qualifying position. Part-time employees who have worked at least 6 months and 600 hours in a calendar year will qualify. Essential Requirements:High School Diploma, completion of trade school or equivalent, with special training in one or more trades; or any combination of education and experience which would provide the applicant with the desired skills, knowledge, and ability required to perform the jobKnowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in skilled maintenance, repair work, and grounds care. Examples include carpentry, plumbing, hardware, glazier, sheet metal work, and mower operation and repair, depending on the area of assignmentKnowledge of work hazards and safety precautionsAbility to communicate effectively with other employees using tact, courtesy, and good judgmentAbility to work with accuracy, efficiency, and attention to detail to meet deadlinesAbility to understand and execute oral and written instructions, policies, and proceduresAbility to read and understand instruction manuals, blueprints, plans, and drawingsAbility to prepare accurate records and reportsAbility to physically perform assigned duties, including, but not limited to, the ability to: A. Work in all weather conditionsValid Oregon State Driver's License: specific endorsements may be required Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Performs building maintenance and repair work such as carpentry, painting, roofing, heating, plumbing, and electrical systems, concrete finishing, hardware, glazing, floor and wall covering, sheet metal work, locksmith, and cabinetry; prepares work site, carries equipment and suppliesMaintains and accounts for tools and equipmentSubmits requests for supplies and equipmentOperates vehicles, hand and power tools, and specialized equipmentPerforms preventive maintenance work as assignedProvides back-up support to other positions in case of absence or work overloadPerforms other related duties as assignedAssists in developing project work plans and objectivesPrepares estimates of labor, time, and costs of proposed projectsPrepares work records, inventory records, and reportsPerforms major grounds care activities such as mowing, fertilization, weed control applications, and pruningAct as a friendly ambassador for the North Santiam School DistrictPerform such other tasks (which may require knowledge of other job descriptions) as may seem to be appropriate to the Board or Administration CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS, BONDING, AND/OR TESTING REQUIRED: 1. Bloodborne Pathogen Training/Hepatitis B Shot Series Training WORK CONDITIONS: Work is both indoors and outdoors, requiring physical effort in carrying out maintenance and repair work with frequent lifting of moderate to heavy objects. Employees may be exposed to power tools, heights, paint fumes, and other potentially hazardous situations for which appropriate safety practices may be required.
