Sr Electro mechanical Design Engineer

What you’ll doYou’ll lead the design and delivery of rugged, reliable functional test equipment and automated test systems used to verify and validate defense hardware and subsystems. This is a hands-on, end-to-end engineering role — from requirements and architecture through detailed design, integration, deployment, and sustainment. If you enjoy building test solutions that combine mechanical design + electrical interfaces + instrumentation + fixtures and seeing them used in real production environments, this role is for you.Why this role mattersYour work directly supports mission-critical programs by ensuring hardware is tested thoroughly, safely, and consistently — in regulated environments where quality and compliance are essential.Key responsibilitiesTest system design & developmentLead design of electromechanical functional test equipment (FTE) and automated test equipment (ATE) for defense hardware (LRUs, circuit cards, subsystems, assemblies)Define system architecture integrating:fixtures/enclosures/racks, cable management, thermal solutionselectrical interfaces, power distribution, instrumentation, sensors, motion componentsProduce detailed designs and documentation (drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, BOMs, ICDs)Provide engineering labor estimates and BOMs to support customer RFQsLead/participate in design reviews, risk assessments, and technical decision-makingIntegration, verification & troubleshootingSupport integration, bring-up, and validation in engineering + production environmentsDevelop and support verification plans to ensure performance, accuracy, safety, and reliabilityTroubleshoot complex electro-mechanical issues (power, signal integrity, grounding, thermal behavior, alignment)Partner with test software engineers to ensure smooth hardware/software integrationSupport root cause analysis and corrective actions for production or field issuesCompliance & standards (defense/aerospace)Ensure designs align with applicable defense/aerospace/safety standards (MIL-STD, IPC, ANSI, UL)Design ruggedized systems for harsh environments, long duty cycles, and long service lifeSupport documentation, audits, and reviews tied to contractual, regulatory, and quality requirementsManufacturing & sustainment supportApply DFM/DFA/DFT best practicesSupport production deployment, technical data package release, and engineering changes (ECOs)Assist sustainment efforts (obsolescence mitigation, fielded system improvements)What we’re looking for (required)Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Electromechanical, Industrial, or related)6+ years designing electromechanical systems (test equipment experience strongly preferred)Advanced CAD skills (SolidWorks preferred)Strong knowledge of materials, manufacturing processes, and mechanical systemsExperience with GD&T and tolerance stack-up analysisProven ability to take designs from concept → productionWorking knowledge of electrical systems (power distribution, grounding, cabling, instrumentation interfaces)Strong problem-solving and communication skills; organized and detail-orientedExperience working in regulated or mission-critical environmentsU.S. Citizenship required (ITAR / export control)Nice to have (preferred)Aerospace/defense test equipment backgroundFamiliarity with MIL-STD requirements (environmental, EMI/EMC, ruggedization)Rack-based systems, custom fixtures, precision alignment mechanismsPXI/VXI/LXI or similar automated test platformsHands-on prototyping, test, and production support experienceSupplier/contract manufacturer experiencePrior technical leadership or project leadershipBasic understanding of ERP systemsWork environmentEngineering work in a standard office environment (standing desks available)Assembly/integration in a manufacturing/production settingPPE as needed (safety glasses, ESD protection)Fast-paced environment with daily goalsWhat we offerChallenging, meaningful engineering work with real impactOpportunity to lead and influence test solution strategyCollaborative, innovative team environmentCareer growth and advancement opportunitiesCompetitive salary + benefits:Medical, Dental, Vision401(k) with 3% employer matchPaid holidays & PTOProfit sharing program for tenured employeesEqual Opportunity EmployerWe are an Equal Opportunity Employer.
