This role is focused on developing robot behaviors that are robust, reusable, and easier to generalize across tasks and robot platforms. You will work on hands-on robotics problems at the intersection of behavior planning, software integration, and robot execution, with opportunities to validate your work in both simulation and on hardware.Key ResponsibilitiesHelp develop and maintain robot behaviors used in real-world workflowsPrototype and evaluate new behavior planning strategies or execution logicApply ideas from your academic research or prior projects to explore improvements in behavior design, robustness, or performanceCollaborate closely with full-time engineers to translate experimental ideas into production-quality robotics softwareContribute to software interfaces and abstractions that make robotics behaviors more modular and reusableAnalyze logs and failures to diagnose behavior and system issuesRun experiments in simulation and on hardware to evaluate behavior performanceAbout YouCurrently pursuing an M.S. or Ph.D. in Robotics, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, with a focus on roboticsComfortable programming in Python (experience with C++ is a plus)Excited about building real robot behaviors, not just running simulationsInterested in behavior planning, robotics software architecture, and systems integrationFamiliar with robotics concepts such as manipulation, motion planning, computer vision, navigation, kinematics, and controlCurious, hands-on, and motivated to understand why robots fail in the real worldBonus QualificationsExposure to robotics middleware such as ROSExposure to motion planning frameworks such as MoveItExperience with simulation tools used in robotics development (Gazebo, Isaac Sim, MuJoCo, PyBullet)Experience designing and building ROS drivers or interfaces for robot hardwareExperience testing or debugging autonomous systems on real robotsFamiliarity with behavior trees, state machines, task planning, or related execution frameworksPrior internship, research, or project experience involving physical robotic systemsThis is an onsite internship at our office in Pittsburgh, PA - minimum 4 days/week onsite.Duration: Internship (3-6+ months, flexible)Anticipated Base Salary Range$55-$55 USDIn addition to base pay, our competitive total rewards package consists of the following for full-time employees:401(k) Plan: Includes a 6% company match.Equity: Company stock options.Insurance Coverage: 100% company-paid medical, dental, vision, and short/long-term disability insurance for employees.Benefit Start Date: Eligible for benefits on your first day of employment.Well-Being Support: Employee Assistance Program (EAP).Time Off:Exempt Employees: Flexible, unlimited PTO and 10 company holidays, including a winter shutdown.Non-Exempt Employees: 10 vacation days, paid sick leave, and 10 company holidays, including a winter shutdown, annually.On-Site Perks: Catered lunches four times a week and a variety of healthy snacks and refreshments at our Salem and Pittsburgh locations.Parental Leave: Generous paid parental leave programs.Work Environment: A culture that supports flexible work arrangements.Growth Opportunities: Professional development and tuition reimbursement programs.Relocation Assistance: Provided for eligible roles.Annual Discretionary Bonus: Provided for eligible roles.All of our roles are U.S.-based.
