Financial Administrator
St. Matthew’s United Methodist Church has an opportunity for a part-time Financial Administrator to join our church staff. This role is responsible for supporting the church’s financial operations, including maintaining accurate financial records and assisting with day-to-day financial tasks. The position is on-site and averages approximately 20 hours per week. As part of a faith-based organization, this position offers the opportunity to contribute to meaningful ministry work and support the church’s mission of serving both the Lord and our community.Job Duties:ContributionsRecord and track contributions including pledges, unpledged giving, and designated donations.Reconcile contribution records with weekly bank deposits.Maintain accurate contribution records and donor information.Prepare and distribute quarterly and annual contribution statements.Accounts PayableProvide information and investigate vendor setup in accounts payable software.Support annual 1099 audits.Ensure invoices and bills receive proper approval before payment.Maintain accurate coding of expenses according to church accounts and budgets.Payroll and Contractor PaymentsCollect and review employee timesheets and submit payroll information to the third-party payroll provider.Maintain accurate information into all benefit systems.Reconcile clergy payroll and benefits with the Mississippi Annual Conference and local church.Distribute W-2 and 1099 forms annually.Financial ReportingWork with the CPA firm to generate and distribute financial reports to church leadership and the Finance Committee.Maintain accurate financial records and documentation.Budget and Financial OversightEnter approved budgets into the accounting system.Record and track approved budget adjustments and transfers.Work with the CPA firm on audit and compliance items.Serve as liaison between the church, auditors, and accounting professionals.Ensure financial records comply with accounting and tax reporting requirements.Additional ResponsibilitiesMaintain confidentiality of church, staff, and financial records.Perform other duties as assigned.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Utilize excellent verbal and written communication skills.Ability to use good conflict management skills.Demonstrate excellent people service skills.Possess the ability to work within staff teams.Possess strong interpersonal skills.Ability to maintain confidence.Demonstrate creativity, flexibility, inclusiveness, humor, and enthusiasm.QUALIFICATIONS:Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field preferred.Experience: Two years’ experience working in accounting or book keeping related field.St. Matthew’s United Methodist Church provides equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants for employment without regard to race, color, religion (although preference may be given to members of the United Methodist Church or those embracing the United Methodist doctrine, to the extent permissible by law), gender, national origin, age, disability, marital status or status as a covered veteran in accordance with applicable federal, state and local laws.
