Night, weekend, and holiday work is required.Hours per Week 40Months per Year 12Purpose of PositionThe university police officer is a member of the University Police Department, which serves and protects the campus community.The officer is responsible for maintaining a positive relationship with the university community; maintaining a secure environment; mitigating safety hazards; being observant and responding to actual and suspected criminal activity on campus; controlling and regulating traffic; and investigating security, safety, crime, and traffic incidents.The university police officer is dedicated to educating, mentoring, and contributing to the success of the university community.Primary ResponsibilitiesThe incumbent is a sworn peace officer with primary responsibility for protecting life and property at Northern Kentucky University. Examples of responsibilities required to complete this task include, but are not limited to:Communicating with supervisors, peers, and all stakeholders in a courteous, culturally-adroit manner that models the University Police core values, while providing an outstanding customer service experience.Patrolling assigned areas on foot, bicycle, or motor vehicle;Promptly, clearly, and concisely completing a variety of written incident, offense, and ancillary reports in a grammatically correct manner and in accordance with established best practices;Responding to emergency alarms and dispatched calls for service;Observing and responding to actual and suspected criminal activity;Deterring crime and arresting violators as prescribed by Kentucky Revised Statutes.QualificationsUniversity Police thrive on student safety and success.
