Line Cook/Coach
Job Summary: We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Cook Coach to work with adults with developmental disabilities. The Cook Coach will be responsible for teaching and assisting individuals in developing their cooking skills, promoting independence, and ensuring a safe and supportive environment.
Key Responsibilities:
-Preps and executes all menu items, including those for seasonal and specials menu items for dine‐in and to‐go, and Grab n Go
-Keeps all areas of the restaurant clean and organized by following cleaning checklists, assisting with cleaning dishes, cleaning kitchen equipment, and detail cleaning as necessary
-Assists kitchen supervisor to maintain proper food par levels and use prep sheet to prepare correct levels - Conducts line checks for quality control
-Uses proper tools that are available to ensure adherence to recipes such as measuring cups, job aids, and various kitchen equipment such as knives, mandolins, rice cooker, microwaves, hot plates, and salamanders
-Follows all opening, mid, and closing procedures as directed by checklists and direction of kitchen supervisor
-Follows and completes Mychal’s Cafe cleaning and food safety checklists to ensure proper food handling
-Teach cooking skills, including meal planning, preparation, cooking techniques, kitchen safety, and cleanliness.
-Provide hands-on support and supervision to ensure participants can safely and effectively engage in cooking activities.
-Develop and implement individualized cooking plans tailored to each participant’s needs and abilities.
-Maintain accurate records of participant progress, daily activities, and any incidents. Report on individual progress and challenges.
- Ensure all activities comply with health and safety regulations and organizational policies. Provide first aid if necessary.
Qualifications:
-High school diploma or equivalent. Culinary training or certification is a plus.
-Previous experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities preferred. Experience in a culinary or teaching role is highly desirable.
-Strong cooking and kitchen management skills.
-Ability to adapt teaching methods to suit individual learning styles and needs.
-Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
-Patience, empathy, and a positive attitude. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 25 pounds, and perform typical kitchen tasks.
- Flexibility to work evenings or weekends as needed.
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $19.50 - $21.00 per hour
Expected hours: 30 – 40 per week
