Control Systems / Servo R&D Paid Internship (PhD-Level)

Are you pursuing a PhD in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Applied Math, or a related quantitative field and passionate about pushing the limits of high-performance servo control systems? Pangolin Laser Systems (ScannerMAX Division) is looking for a talented intern to join our team and help expand the capabilities of our world-class digital servo drivers for laser galvanometers. You’ll work on advanced algorithms (state-space, LQR, MPC, etc.) that could become part of our product line — and potentially form the core of your thesis or a published paper. Our previous intern’s project contributed directly to his MIT PhD thesis… and he won the prestigious George M. Sprowls Award for best thesis in 2022. That’s the caliber of impact we’re talking about. What you’ll bring Currently pursuing a PhD in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics or similar quantitative field Strong experience developing algorithms in C, MATLAB, Python, or similar Bonus if you have Hands-on experience with digital state-space control, LQR, MPC, or other advanced servo techniques Familiarity with Digital Signal Processors (TI, Analog Devices, etc.) About Pangolin & ScannerMAX Since 1986, Pangolin Laser Systems has served more than 100,000 clients worldwide with industry-leading laser scanning software and hardware.
